When should I be worried

Is it ok that my 25 week old dd is not sitting on her own?? I guess I am concerned about developmental delays b/c she had a difficult birth, but I was just wondering if this is still ok or not?

Re: When should I be worried

  • i wouldn't be worried yet at all.

I am trying to think when Gisele sat unassisted. Seems like forever ago. But six months was around thanksgiving and i know we had her propped on the couch for her six month pictures.

And for what it is worth- the worrying thing never ends. i think you do adjust somewhat to not worrying AS much- but you still worry.

do you have a bumbo chair? or something similar- a few minutes in them here and there can help build the muscles.

there is also the Fisher Price 'stage' -- that really helped my DD with sitting. she would sit in front of it and look at herself in the mirror and bang on the keys. She played with that starting around four months- i would sit behind her until she was more steady. She still plays with every day- so that toy got a lot of use. Holiday present maybe?

  • No, I wouldn't be worried. Every baby hits milestones at different times. My Emma still hasn't even rolled over yet. She will get on her side at times but other than that she is perfectly happy laying on her back. I've propped her up to try to get her to sit up but she falls over after a second or two. Just keep practicing with her! It will happen sooner or later!!

  • My DD didn't sit unassisted until 7 months, which was still within the normal range.  No need to worry yet!
