"egg sensitivity" and the flu shot?

My son got the seasonal flu shot on Oct 2nd.  Two weeks later he randomly started to have random gagging/vomiting episodes while eating (which he never had prior).  I know it may not be related. But then yesterday I took him for an allergy test because he had allergic reaction on Oct 24th (we aren't sure to what) but the scratch test showed an "egg sensitivity". The Dr ordered a blood test but we don't have results yet. So should he not have gotten the vaccine?  Anyone else's LO allergy tested?  How do I know if he is truly allergic? Is a sensitivity = allergic to? Now I am nervous that he got the seasonal AND H1N1 shot..

Re: "egg sensitivity" and the flu shot?

  • DS has a few allergies (dairy, soy, eggs, fish).  Docs don't do allergy testing here though until LO is 5 unfortunately.  We've been told they're allergies and not sensitivities because of the reactions he's had (severe vomiting, bloody poop, severe diarrhea etc), and our doc said no to the flu shots.

I would ask your doc what they think about getting those shots or any egg-based shot for that matter.  I just took DS in this morning for that very reason.

  • My DD has a severe egg allergy that requires the use of an epipen. We know its a true allergy because she had a horrible reaction after taking a bite of a pancake and was later tested. My pedi said no to both the flu shot and H1N1 - however, they still encourage the MMR vaccine which is also egg based but uses less of it.
