Hi everyone! Just got my BFP this morning and am excited to join you all! I have one first question...
I called this morning to set up my first dr. appt, and they will see me at 8 weeks, which I've heard is normal. I asked what I should expect, and she said that I will get a 'prescription' for blood work and an ultrasound since they don't do them in the building. Has anyone ever gotten an 'off-site' ultrasound? Where did you go? The only people I've talked to had the ultrasound and everything right in their dr. office.
Re: Offsite BW & Ultrasounds?
I've been told that "normal" ultrasounds will be done at the hospital, which is just down the road. They have the capability of doing it at my doctor's office, but my impression was that they only did that if something was wrong and they needed one right away. With that being said, I haven't had an ultra sounds yet.
Congrats on your BFP!
For my first pregnancy I got my bloodwork and simple u/s done in my OB's office but my new OB doesn't have that stuff so I have to go to the hospital outpatient center. No big deal.
It's fairly normal for doctor's to now have their own u/s equipment and often you're sent to the nearby hospital.
When a doctor has their own equipment they're taking money away from the hospitals. They get the full reimbursement for the procedure and that money mostly goes in their pocket. When the procedure is done in the hospital the hospital gets the money and the money goes back towards the hospital, and therefore the community.
I often wonder how many of the posters who get frequent u/s are going to a doctor that owns their own equipment?
