Although this is my second baby, my first is 8 now and it seems like a lifetime ago!!!
I am curious how many diapers you go through a day?
What type of diaper you think is best?
How many cans(or whatever you use) of formula I should expect to go through in a week/ cost(without assistance, we dont qualify
)?
If in daycare, how much do you pay for unde a year old?
What was the cost that surprised you most (besides daycare)?
Thanks in advance!
Re: curious question for second time moms
We probably went through a large cosco size box of diapers a month (278)
and usually 3 tubs of wipes. We only used pampers swaddlers. They were great
As for formula it really depends on what your baby can handle. My DD had to be on nutremagin (I like to call it liquid gold) it was 24 dollars a can and we used about 2 and 1/2 cans a week.
Daycare for this little one will be 198 a week (there is a discounted rate because DD is already at the center)
Cost that added up for us was co-pays but really the most expensive was daycare and regular care. We budgeted 1500 a month for this baby for the first year and we still have all the baby gear from DD. It is one reason we waited almost 4 years between the kids to ensure we had that extra cash in the budget
diapers- at the beginning, 10-12 a day! But DS never fit in newborn diapers, he was almost 10 pounds at birth so we started with size 1s. I wouldn't buy too many newborn sizes till LO is born, in case you don't use them all.
I only like Pampers Cruisers for DS, hated Huggies... but may try a store brand for this LO (I've heard Costco diapers are good? not sure)
No formula, I BF till DS was 11 months, then he went to milk.
I'm in Vancouver, $850/month full time daycare. I think this really depends on your location though.
Honestly, I don't think babies are all that expensive. Of course now, having a toddler that eats more than I do is costing us a bit more in groceries lol.
My son is only 3 1/2 and these are the same questions I've been wondering about. I know we pay $640/month for my potty trained 3 yr old. I think it's $880/month for infants. But, we get a whopping 10% discount for DS when you have more than one. I guess the $64/month savings will go towards diapers
Diapers - as a newborn at least 10-12 a day, now it's around 5-6.
I like pampers swaddlers for young babies, we also use cloth at home and now Luvs at daycare.
Never used formula for either kid, have no clue
We pay $185/week for DS.
The most unexpected costs I'd say are all the little things that just add up....trying different bottles to please a picky baby, all the nursing supplies for work (pump, etc), clothes to fill in, toddler SHOES....holy cow are they $$$$$$$$$, that sort of thing. Nothing 'big', but just the little day to day things that add up.
I'm definitely going to have some skewed numbers for ya.
Diapers (we cloth diaper)
I dont remember how much formula we went through, I'm BF'ing this time.
Daycare is $500 a month (MIL watches her)
My insurance doesnt cover preventative care, so wellbaby visits are expensive!
Steal my kids picture or pretend they are yours, I will find where you live and ship all of their dirty diapers to your doorstep. Promise.
