XP: Sleep schedules and morning routines

 what's your sleep schedule like?

I ask because I find that with DS, it takes me atleast 3 hours to get everything I need to get done in the AM!  Luckily, I haven't had to get out of the house too early, but I can't imagine if I had to be out of the house by 7AM.

Do you have any tips for making mornings easier?

  • There is no way I could get 3 hours in the AM...the girls wake up about 5:50 AM and we are out the door at 7:25 AM...I shower at night, their bag gets packed the night before and my lunch is put together...in the morning they get their bottles, I get a little make-up on, we all get changed, and out the door we go...I would look at steamlining your AM routine...
  • Definitely do as much at night as you can.  I think it gets a little easier as they get older and you get more used to the routine.  I get up at 6, get DS up around 6:30-6:45 and we're out the door by 7 these days.  I used to get him up a little earlier when I nursed him before leaving, but not much.

  • It takes me almost 3 hours with 2 - but that's because one gets up well before the other one so I have to be up, if that makes sense. If DS would wake up later, I could do it faster based on the things I do the night before.

I posted on my blog today about what I do in the morning to make it easier, and it links back to what I did when I had one.

  • What are you doing in the morning?

When DS was that little, we woke him at 6:30 and had him out the door at 7:30.  I only had to nurse him, and DH changed his clothes.  We trade off getting ready and watching DS.

Right now, I don't have to get out of the door til 11 most days, but that will soon change.  This AM, I had to shower, nurse DS, pump, eat breakfast, pick up around the house--make bed, etc., get pump & baby bag ready, get dressed & hair/makeup.

DH left after the first 2 things on the list so I had to juggle everything else while keeping DS happy.

THe hardest thing right now is that DS has NO predictability.  Somedays, he might sleep through all the excitement, others he might want to be held the whole time!!
