What do Braxton Hicks feel like?

and can you have them at 16 weeks?

I have no idea what is going on with me, but multiple times during the day, I will have some major cramping (where what feels like my cervix). I drink tons, so I know it's not because of lack of liquid. It doesn't last long and isn't timely or anything.

Maybe it's stretching? I don't remember having anything like this with Preston, but I was working then too, so not much time to really notice too many body signs.

  • Braxton Hicks are when your belly gets tight & hard.  I had some serious crotchal pain with #2, it's likely just one of the joys LOL

This exactly. The BHs are higher up where real contrax just feel like menstural cramps  that come and go (at least for me they did).

  • Braxton Hicks will make your tummy feel hard like a regular contraction; they just aren't as painful.  I wonder if you are maybe just having some round ligament pain, which is basically just stretching.  I had a lot of that with my second pregnancy in the first and second trimesters.
  • Like Kori said, braxton hicks is tightening across your tummy... Maybe you are having round ligament pains from your belly/uterus growing and stretching?? I know when i had some cramping with DS#2 they said it was the round ligaments...

If it makes you feel better, I would call and speak with a nurse to ease your mind.

  • Okay, thanks guys. That's a relief.

Josey - Your probably right. I bet it is just round ligament stretching. So annoying though.

  • Just to warn you, I had a lot of random pains the second time around that I didn't have the first time.  When you start having the "I just got kicked in the crotch" feeling, remember I said this and don't worry! Wink
  • I have been getting them for a few weeks now already I remember only getting them until later with dd. I asked my OB about them and he said that it is normal for them to start as early as 6 weeks because they have been detected on ultrasound and that they can last for up to 30min. Sometimes women can feel them and sometimes not. I just think we are more in tune this time so recognize it more. They feel exactly the way they felt with dd and if you feel your belly where your uterus is, you will feel it get much harder.
