Last baby free Xmas

and while I'm excited about the news and everything, I'm hoping no one gets us baby related presents or something. I wouldn't think they would since the baby isn't due till July but is that weird?

I guess I can't control what people get for us but is it wrong that I want this one last Xmas to be just about us as a couple?

How are you pg ladies feeling about Xmas this year?

Re: Last baby free Xmas

  • well I'm not pg or a mom, but I know at least 2 people that would do anything to have the holidays about a child and not about themselves.

  • Next year's Xmas (and pretty much all of the ones after that) will be all about the child, no question. And I am thankful. I'm not trying to come off as not being happy or excited or grateful. Sorry if it sounded that way

  • Timm and I are doing Christmas for ourselves this year.  We promised each other no BR gifts to each other.  My fam isn't doing gifts this year because the secret santa thing didn't work out last year.  So we're on our own.

I agree though, it is the last one and I wanted it to be all about us as a couple.

LOL, be prepared to receive baby stuff on your birthday too :)  Hard to complain though...free baby stuff = awesome

  • Last year we got presents for ourselves from our parents/grandparents and also presents for the baby.  I agree, free baby stuff does = awesome!

Also, I don't think you need to apologize.  If we complain about having to wake up every 2 hours or other baby related fun...sure, you could say there are tons of people that would give anything to have a baby waking them up or projectile pooping on them....it doesn't mean you don't love your baby.

Haven't even thought about it?!  I've gotta get through making Thanksgiving dinner first & then I'll probably be too occupied trying to pick out paint & furniture for the nursery to really even worry about what others will give us as gifts for Christmas...

  • My family ensured that the last Christmas before P was about us as a couple since they basically said every year after that we'd be a distant second...whatever.

We both buy stuff for ourselves if we want something so it's not like Christmas was super special from the parents before that- it was nice and all but held no magic..

Christmas does indeed become all consuming when you have children in terms of their joy/perspective and fun! And, it's amazing!!!

  • I'm already looking forward to next Christmas with the baby!  (I know I'm pathetic!)  We won't be getting any BR Christmas presents since we're not announcing the pregnancy prior to Christmas.

  • I wouldn't mind getting some BR stuff for Christmas, especially if it was books or things to prepare us for the baby, but since I'm not due until July, i can't imagine getting anything for the baby. But I would be excited if we did because that is one less thing we have to buy.

And DH and I don't really need/want anything for us. But I am thinking I would love gift cards at this point since I will be wanting to buy new clothes.

  • Maybe I'll ask my family to get me a doppler for Xmas. :) I'll be able to use it pretty soon after Xmas.

  • I am pretty sure my aunt will be buying us a crib which I am psyched about.  I don't really have a whole lot that I want/need and I am kinda stressed about money so I wouldn't mind getting baby stuff for Christmas.  DH and I will do something special at home that will be all about us.  And I think that you are totally right to be wanting special time for you and DH before baby because one of the best gifts you can give your LO is a strong relationship between mom and dad!
