High-Risk Pregnancy

Factor V, when to start lovenox?

I have already heard from a few other ladies with Factor V and had some good feedback, however I'm curious about when you guys were started on Lovenox? I am not very far along yet, but I did have my first OB appt today, however they didn't mention starting lovenox at all yet. My next appt with the high risk dr isn't until 12/4. Does this seem consistent with what you guys have experienced.

If you didn't see my prior post, I have never had a clot, was diagnosed a little over a year ago after my brother was hospitalized with clots and I have been on baby aspirin since.

Re: Factor V, when to start lovenox?

  • I started at about 7 weeks, but my dr. had planned to start earlier...just didn't work out that way.  However, I have previous a previous late pregnancy loss related to clotting, so they wanted to start as soon as possible due to my history.  Doesn't hurt to ask, at least call your MFM and get guidelines.

  • I started as soon as I got my BFP (my regular OB put me on it), but I had a previous DVT and PE.  I would call and ask in case they just didn't remember or weren't aware.  Personally, I would rather start as soon as I can - gives that extra reassurance and I don't really understand why you would need to wait.

  • I have mthfr. I found out when I was pregnant with dd, so I didn't start lovenox until I was 10 weeks.  With my next pregnancy, I will start it as soon as I get a positive test.

  • I start Lovenox as SOON as I get a bfp.  Before I can even get an appt at my OB's office he calls in the Rx to my pharmacy so I can get started.

  • I started Lovenox (40mg once a day) a few days after I got my BFP. They wanted to start me as soon as possible, but I had to get in and get trained on the shots. (I am Factor V hetero and have a history of DVTs and PEs).
  • I have heterozygous Factor V and a past DVT.  They started me on Lovenox as soon as I got a bfp.

  • I don't actually have any of the genetic clotting disorders but I did have a DVT 2 years ago where 3 veins in my leg were totally occluded and part of the clot broke off but thankfully did not make it to the lungs or anything.

I started Lovenox after our viability u/s around 8 weeks.

  • My OB wanted to wait for a viability scan because the meds are not without risks, and my uterus is apparently strangely shaped...so baby was hard to find at first, resulting in a delay of a couple weeks before I could start.  The sooner the better, but my MFM isn't too concerned at the extra couple weeks.
  • I didn't start until 7.5 weeks because of a mix-up with some doctors. I would call and check what they are planning to do, as my doctors changed their minds many times.

  • I was told its ideal to start prior to conception, but when I was told that I was already 4 weeks along.  The MFM said that was fine since I did not have a history of problems with clotting.  Like you, I was tested due to another family member.

  • Thank you everyone for the input and great advice!!! I guess I'm going to try to call the dr. on Monday! I still can't believe I totally forgot to ask the nurse about starting it at my appt on Thursday , but I just kept thinking she would be getting to it and then she didn't and I just forgot about it until I got home!!
