1st Trimester

what are/will your parents be called?

We can't decide on what to call my Mom. Shes still young (had me young) so she doesn't like the typical Grandma or Mawmaw. Nannie is taken by my grandmother and grammy is taken by DH's mom.  She wants to be called Biggin. Long story short.....a few years ago at the Victoria Secret semi annual sale she help up these HUGE granny panties and from across the room called out "sweet heart, will these fit you". and since then we've called her biggin after thoes massive big panties that she got a hoot out of.  I think it's hilarious she wants to be called that but I am not going to explain this to our child one day, sepecially if its a boy!!

Any cute, young name ideas?

Re: what are/will your parents be called?

  • Right now they're just "grandma" and "grandpa". They are never in the same room at the same time, or ever around each other in general, so we don't worry.

If it came down to it my IL's would be "grandma and grandpa hunter" and my parents would just be  "grandma" and "grandpa".

  • My mom was considering GG (her friend used it as "Gorgeous Grandma" but my mom just likes how it sounds)

I kinda like Biggin. How soon will they ever ask about it?

  • My parents will be Grandma and Grandpa.  My gradparents will be Gigi (or however you spell it) and Pops b/c thats what my little cousin calls them.  And I just figure our LO will probably just pick that up.  DH's "guardians" will probably be aunt and uncle or something.  And DH's Aunt and Uncle that he's really close with will probably be grandma and grandpa just b/c all the other small children on his side of the family are their grandchildren.  And again our LO will probably just pick it up and its not a big deal.

  • I haven't thought about this yet, but DH's family is Italian, so probably Nonna and Nonno... but not sure about my parents.

When we were little, we called our grandparents "grandma/grandpa New York or grandma/grandpa Florida" because of where they lived. Kinda silly, but it stuck!

  • My parents are GiGi and PaPa and DH parents are Grammy and Grampy
  • My son from a previous relationship has 3 sets of Grandparents (my parents are both remarried) So he has Grammy and Grampy, Grandma and Grandpa, and MiMi and Papa. This baby will have it even harder (except on Christmas and Birthdays when the extra Grandparent's make them royalty with gifts!) with 4 sets of Granparents as my husnbands family is remarried as well. With both his parents being hispanic they will be Abuelo and Abuela and Abuelito and Abuelita..

  • My DD calls my mom "Ma"

  • My mom wants to be grammie.  We keep joking with my dad that he will be Grandpa Buddha.  He has a big belly, and my cousins call him Uncle Buddha belly.  They rub it for good luck.

His dad will probably be Grandpa (insert last name).

  • We call them all Grandma and Grandpa.  Megan calls the grandpa's "papa".  She decided this on her own, so we went along with it.  Sometimes we call MIL "grannie" just to annoy her.

  • My grandparents are Grandma and Papa..

My dad will probably be called Pops (because I've always called him that and it fits for a gpa too)..not sure about my SM..Not even sure they sure call her grandma, really. (Her and my dad haven't been married that long)

Don't really care what/if they call my mother. :)

DH's parents have names tehy want to be called.."Poppie' and .. well I don't remember the other one.

I am not going to force our LO to call them a certain thing.. I figure it will just happen naturally. However DH and I are both only children so there's nothing for them to 'pick up' on..

I had a "grandma and grandpa in the mountains" because that's where they lived too!!

I like nana and papa for my dad and stepmom, Grandma and Grandpa for my mom and her husband, and I'm not sure what the in-laws wanna go with yet?

  • my parents are mimi and papa since they have to grandkids already. I dont know what DH's parents will want to be called.

  • DH's parents are Nana and Papa

I'm not sure what the kids call DH's grandpa's.  Need to find out.

Mine I'm not sure, maybe Gigi and pops?  That just fits them.

and my grandpa will be pa--that's all I've ever called him!

  • My sister and I always called our grandmother "Grammy" and that is what my mom wanted to be called as also.  Well, my little niece took it upon herself to call her Gigi (with the soft g) as soon as she started talking and that has stuck.  I am sure this lo will call her that as well.

My step dad is known as Papa :)

  • My parents will be mammaw and pappaw

DH's parents will be grandpa and grandpa

  • All I know is that my fil will be Papou which is greek..I am not crazy about it considering it is pronounced pa-poo. Might as well call him poo-poo!

  • My dad & stepmom are already Gran & Gramps to my niece so I am sure that will stick.

My mom & stepdad are thinking hard about what they want to be called.  I think it's kind of funny that they said that to me already.

My MIL wants to be called Marmi which I think is weird & hideous so I asked her to think of something else.  My FIL is grandpa.

  • We let the kids come up with the names for their grandparents. We have Grandma and Grandpa, papa and grammy, grams, grape grandma (great grandma) and old grandma (other great grandma. Old grandma was how my daughter could tell my grandma and my mom apart. My grandma loves it. The only problem is that when my daughter was two she would walk up to woman and tell them they "looked like a nice old grandma". She was only trying to be nice but some woman didnt like that very much.
  • grandma and grandpa. I've never understood cutsie names (unless there are cultural reasons for said names)
  • My Parents - Poppa and Nonna

His Parents - Pop and Gigi
