    There's actually this Home Depot set with "lumber" and tools that I think DD would just love.

    It's on her Hanukkah list, and I'm hoping one of her grandparents can find it for her.

    DH and I love the Home Depot one for DD ! SO CUTE! But only if it can go up in someone else's house :) I like toys that can be hidden!

    dd already has one actually.  and an extensive truck collection :)  she puts her baby dolls in the dump truck and drives them around.

    I've thought about it, but I am waiting to buy anything else until after his b-day party. This way I don't have to return a bunch of stuff. Did you find a good deal somewhere?

    I think I am going to wait until his bday to buy him a toolbench.  He is at that stage where everything gets lost because he shoves them in every pot, trash can, shoe etc in the house. He would love it though.  He likes to help dad with his projects.

    Well, it's an either/or situation, and frankly, the kitchen looks cuter in her room. And it has a fake sink because she loves to fake wash her hands, and it also has doors that she can open and close and put things in. Apparently,it's really fun to do that.

    But she does have cars and she makes them go "Vroom vrooom," her ball popper isn't girly pink, and she has a little hammer and nail pounding thing. Does that count?

    Some children do.  And if the argument is that "Men cook!" and that this is teaching them skills to use later in life, then I think a workbench is just as handy.  Any woman should know how to use a nail and hammer.  Or change a flat tire. 

    There is no real distinction here. 

    And T-minus 10 seconds before everyone starts jumping on the bandwagon of your explanation.

    i totally agree!  EVERYONE should know how to change a flat.  I'm shocked at how many of my girlfriends have had to call their husbands/dads/grandpas to come help them out.

    I considered it.  We have space issues, so I'm not going to.  But she loves to play with the one her friend has.

    I can cook a hamburger on a Foreman Grill in my bathroom if I wanted to.

    I don't use a workbench so I don't see the need to buy her one.  BUT I do put together all the toys/furniture and use the hammer/tools more than DH so I'm sure there will be a hammer/screwdriver set in her future.   LOL.

    I'm not getting a kitchen either. No room! We did get her some of the my first craftsman power tools. can i get some credit for that? when we move and have a garage she's getting a work bench like daddy. :)

    You know what though? This is just a generalization, won't apply to all of you. But I'm guessing that most of this board is white collar and a lot of the DH's don't even have much in the way of tools. Mine does. He cannot WAIT to get DD working on cars.

    That's what I was thinking too. I grew up with my parents working together on different projects. My first job was at a hardware store.

    My mom takes DD to car shows and lets DD "help" her while she is re-building her firebird. 

    When I moved out on my own, my dads gift to me was a tool box full of everything I needed,.
