Babies on the Brain

s/o gender...

Did you find out what you were having beforehand, or are you going to find out?

I have a friend who just doesn't want to know - loves the idea of the surprise, while DH and I want to know when the times comes because it just seems easier to plan accordingly...

Re: s/o gender...

  • I think I'd like to know, not because it'd make a difference but I guess it does make things easier. Atleast the baby wouldn't have to wear all neutral colors.

  • I didn't want to know, DH did, we didn't find out until she was here.

Since he did it my way, I promised that for #2 we would find out. (although I wish I hadn't promised because I liked not knowing.)

  • I want to know.

I believe in sex stereotypes, and I want to perpetuate the pink & blue mentality.

  • I will have to know. DH agrees.
  • I don't want to find out. DH is on board with that and is excited to wait. (that is if I ever get pregnant!)

  • with chloe we chose not to find out, however my doctor slipped up accidentally at 35wks and told me it was a girl. FWIW i knew 100% my entire pregnancy i was having a girl, i just knew it.

with McKenzie i told DH the entire time i knew it was going to be a girl, and we chose to find out with her. i am so glad we found out with her because we had a deffinant name picked out early and with everything that happened im glad i didnt have to pick one in at that time.

  • We're team green. Number one reason is for the surprise element. Number two reason is for planning - we plan to have more, and will want to re-use everything. So we'll have everything gender neutral from the start.

I have a friend who is having a girl, and plans to have more. Everything they registered for is pink. Not just bedding and clothes, but all the big ticket items you keep for the next kid. I don't get it. In fact if anyone here who has done that wants to enlighten me, I would love to hear something supporting this so I could understand it a little better, lol. I truly just don't get it.

  • I am a planner and don't think I could handle not knowing! So yes we found out.

If she's anything like my friend, she will have another shower if she has a boy and register for all BLUE things. Wasteful...

I am all for decorating your kids' life in either pink or blue.

However, I firmly believe gender neutral big ticket items are necessary.

  • We will find out.  My MIL told us that it would be an "inconvenience" if we didn't tell her the gender.  That's not the reason why we're finding out, but I just thought I'd throw that little MIL fun fact in there. Wink

  • We will find out. DH doesn't really want to but I win.
  • We found out just a week ago.  I was going back and forth and DH wanted to know.  I was leaning more towards finding out, but the thought of finding out at delivery seemed so exciting.

Ick I hope not. And I have to admit - I got her the only things on her registry that weren't pink. Bath toys. Hehe. I want my gift to last for all their kids, dammit!

  • We found out.  All of our big ticket items, except for his crib bedding, are gender neutral though.  I fell in love with his bedding, and decided that would be the one thing hypothetical #2 would get to have new.  So even if hypothetical #2 ends up a boy, he'll get new bedding.

Me too! I swear at every ultrasound I will repeat 5 times DO NOT TELL ME! I would be so pissed if someone let it slip.

Our u/s tech didn't even "go there" since I told her immediately that we weren't finding out. She said she wouldn't go near that area so there wasn't a whoops on her shoulders. DH was disappointed because he was dying to try to get a peek.

This happened to my cousin. After 7 miscarriages, she wanted SO badly to be surprised. Month 8, she went in for an u/s and the tech said, "Well she looks really good!" Argh.

    She was so upset!

  • We're going to find out what we're having, but we're not telling anyone else.

It will be nice having something just between the two of us. Plus it makes it a lot more difficult for people to go rogue with the gift giving.. if we wanted everything pink or blue.. we wouldn't bother with neutrals.

When we find out, I think we will tell everyone what we'll be having, but I believe we will keep the name to ourselves... that way everyone know something, and we still have something to us =)
