How can you tell the position of your LO?

I'm going to ask my doc tomorrow out of curiosity, but how have you been able to tell the position of your LO? All's I know is something keeps hitting my ribs. On a totally random note, my coworker changed the office assistant on her computer to a dog, turned her volume up, and it keeps barking. I feel like I'm in a kennel.

Re: How can you tell the position of your LO?

  • I find where his back is first. Obviously feet are easy to keep track of, and he's been head down since 29 weeks so he picks right or left and always faces sideways although lately he's facing my back hopefully getting ready to make an exit!

  • I can't really tell. I tried another bumpies suggestion to google belly mapping but it wasn't terribly helpful for me. I get kicks low  all day long, but when I compared the location of movement to the heartbeat found by the nurse nothing quite made since. Hopefully your Dr. can shed some light on this for you. I'd love to hear what he/she has to say.
  • Some times during the day, my belly was looking lopsided. My left side was hard and my ride side was softer, I figured this was her back. Then I most often feel pressure right under my left boob, which I figured was her butt because I feel most kicks on my right side. I asked my doctor at yesterday's appointment and she was able to feel the baby's position... it turns out I was right!

  • I'm just guessing that since I get most of the harder movement up on my upper left that thats where the baby is kicking me- I get softer movement on the lower right of my abdomin so i know the kid is not sitting in there completely correct but at least I hope it is sitting in the right position

  • I always feel his stretches on my right side.  He's been head down since doc started checking position.. the only time I'm sure of his position is when I start feeling him move.. but even then, I'm just assuming by where I feel movement at. :)
  • I can't tell either really... The doc said he was head-down at last appointment so I suppose whatever I feel near my ribs is his feet... But it seems like he moves so much I don't even know.
  • My LO is head down. I can tell cause he kicks me in my ribs all day long and I feel his hiccups low kinda by my left hip. When my nurse felt around for him from the outside she said the same thing. she was able to find his head, butt and feet/legs all from feeling from the outside.

  • My LO is not head down.  He is either transverse, or his head is still in my ribs.  I can always feel it on the right side of my belly.  I can feel a knee (I think - whatever it is has a little bend in itSmile )on the left side.  The stronger jabs are definitely on the left.

  • Well since my OB does an ultrasound at every visit, I know exactly where my LO is.  I can feel her head (which is the hardest) so as soon as she presses it against my belly and it pops out I can pretty much tell what position she is in after that. Try feeling around when she moves and squirms for a hard bump, that will more than likely be her head and maybe you can figure out from there how she is positioned.
