Car Seat Safety - infor I think we could all find helpful

https://www.buckleupkids.state.mn.us/

Seats that have been in an accident, are older than 6 years, have no known or reliable history, or show any signs of stress or strain should never be used.

Also, there is no program in place in MN to recycle car seats and it is too difficult to break them down into their component parts to be recycled. This means, unfortunately, that car seats must be thrown away.

Far too many car seats are sold at garage sales or are being given away online that simply should not be. I understand everyone's hesitation at throwing them away, but it simply comes down to safety of children, which is the bottom line.

  • Yes  Saving a few dollars is not always worth it!

  • I usually actually pick up seats offered on freecycle and destroy them.

As a car seat tech, it makes me SO mad to see people taking seats off of freecycle, as well as being sold on craigslist.

I've been working to try and get craigslist to post a warning like the one freecycle just did, but they won't listen. (and FYI, it took months of emails from me and other people to get freecycle to listen as well).
