i'm so confused at the no-kitchen-for-boys sentiment. men cook. and in my house dh is the dishwasher too. i also don't understand why some men get their panties in a twist over boys playing with dolls and pushing strollers - i bet all of our husbands have held a baby and pushed a stroller.

My son loves playing with the play kitchen at the gym daycare, so my husband and I decided to get him one. We picked it out at Costco together. I'm not sure why some husbands are against it but I get the feeling that maybe they think it will make their sons gay? I really hate to say that, but I am not sure why else they would care.
He's getting a toy shopping cart and play food to go in it from my SMIL for Christmas. He absolutely loved playing in the child-sized grocery in the Royal Ontario Museum's hands-on kids area. Now that I think about it, a kitchen would be a great gift for him.
I would get him a kitchen, but someone already gave us a workbench, so we just don't have room for 2 big things like that. I did get DS a toy vacuum for Christmas though.
DH is against the play kitchen in general. We have a DD. It's not a gender thing, it's a space thing. He hates big toys. I am working on him to agree for DD's 2nd birthday. I lost the battle on Hannukah/Christmas.
Oakley loves his play kitchen - he "cooks" me dinner every night. He also has a PINK cell phone. And he's getting a shopping cart and a DOLL for Christmas.
The women in our old playgroup thought that giving DS a play kitchen was a horrible idea because they are made just for girls. Apparently it would confuse him on the proper roles between men and women... (And people wonder why I quit going to that group..) I wouldn't buy him a pink one, but that is just because I don't like the color pink.
DH is a chef and DS always wants to "help" him cook, so we will be getting DS a play kitchen next summer/fall. Then he can cook when daddy does.

It is on our Xmas list for him, along with some kind of a dollhouse. He loves playing with both at school, likes putting his "guys" (playmobil 1 2 3 figures) and cars in the different rooms, loves helping me and DH in the kitchen, etc. We may get him the Plan Toys Eco House - something very neutral. I *really* don't understand why this is a big deal.
We picked out just a grill for DS for Christmas, but I looked at kitchens (we don't have the room for a whole kitchen right now). I asked DH his opinion and he said "great, he can be the next take-home chef".
I want to get him one, DH says no. But DH said he can get a vacuum, broom, etc. I don't get it, and it's not a big deal so it's not a battle I am going to fight. Will I let him play with one, Yes!
Not only does my son play in a play kitchen, but he sweeps the floor and wears my shoes around the house and has *gasp* a doll. I figure he'll be a good husband someday who is able to cook and clean and take care of his child.
If I had a DS, I would let him play with a kitchen but I would probably not go buy one specifically for him. We'll be getting one for DD this Christmas and if we have a DS I'm sure he'll play with it too.
DH and I love to cook together, because of that DS is drawn to the kitchen. We have been debating getting him a play kitchen but there isn't much space I. Our home for another big toy, especially with another on the way. We hope to get him one soon if we can find a smaller one.
When I told me DH I wanted to get DS one for Christmas, he said "you know he's a boy, right?" I told him that was the stupidest thing he ever said (questionable, actually, he says other ridiculous things often) and that men and women cook and its a life skill we will be teaching DS. My DH cooks almost as much as I do, so I don't even know what possessed him to say that.
I'm married to one of those ignorant men who does have a problem with little boys playing with toy kitchens. He says it's not "manly" enough. Ugh, wouldn't YOU like Tyler Florence's salary?
Guess what DS is getting for Christmas? That would be a Step2 Kitchen with the bundle of play food. You can guess who won this battle.
It wouldn't be an issue. DH loves to cook, he would have no problem with a play kitchen for DS. DD has toy cars and tools.. I've never thought anything of it before.

DS isn't getting a play kitchen for Xmas because he already has one. It isn't one I'd pick out but it was a gift from our neighbors and DS loves it. He washes dishes and puts his toys in the oven.
My DH is the dishwasher and main cook at our house. He also does the laundry and sweeps the floors. Guess what things my DS likes best? Yup, vacuuming, and laundry. He has his own toy vacuum but prefers the dust buster. And at 16 months only needs help opening the door and adding soap to do his own laundry (he loads and unloads it himself). "Manly" boys can suck it.
I don't understand the issue either. If I have a boy next he will probably love the play kitchen we have for DD and he will probably be a great cook because I will teach all my kids to cook.
Re: Clicky Poll: Boys and Play Kitchens
I say yes he can play with them. DH says no.
That one is a losing battle.

I love these two beautiful children!
My ds is the only boy in a family full of girls - he plays with a lot of non-boy toys!
Also - I hate to cook, so I'm hoping this instills a love of cooking in him and he can make all my meals when he's older!
I would absolutely let him play with one, and if we had any space left in this house for a big toy I would probably get him one for Christmas.
Now I want to see the poll asking how our husbands all feel about it
Yup, and my DH is one of them! AND he is VERY manly!

I guess, he is bound to catch The Gay.

I got Oak a toy broom and dustpan. The kid just loves to sweep and I'm not about to discourage that!

If we had a space for it he would have one already. That is the only reason he doen't have one.
I keep hoping I can find a place for it because I know he woul love it.

Play kitchen is on order right now.
