Essentially it's about a love triangle between a teenage girl, a teenage werewolf and a vampire. The books are really good - I liked them much more than I though I would. You should definitely read them if you have the time!
Of course, none of this explains why, despite the crappy writing and mega-watt melodrama, they're utterly addictive. You'll just have to find out for yourself.

Definitely don't see the movies if you haven't read the books. The first movie was awful IMO.
The books are addicting - even my DH read them. I lead high school reading groups and we read the first book last year with one of our girls' groups. I brought it home and he picked it up because he was bored one night. Over the next 6 days he read all 4 books. He was completely obsessed.

Totally agree. They were just ridiculous, mostly dialogue, and unbelievably indulgent (especially Breaking Dawn...OMFG. Bella SMASHES the boulder, just because she can! ROFL), but I read them all. I generally don't admit that, LOL.
When someone told me they sparkle I promised myself i would NEVER read or watch a movie. That is the stupidest thing I have ever heard. I can't believe how many people like it.
Can't knock it 'till you try it.
