We are meeting with a pediatric surgeon in 2 weeks for a consult on this, and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with it.
It seems pretty minor in talking to our ped and reading online, but when it is your baby is surgery ever really minor?
Thanks in advance for sharing your experience!
Re: Has anyone's son had an inguinal hernia?
3 boys (15, 8, 6), 1 girl (4)
Robbie had bilateral inguinal hernias repaired before he came home from the NICU. He also had a bunch of other stuff done at the same time (hiatal hernia, G tube, fundoplication) and he was under 4lb at the time, so it's hard to compare the two.
He had some trouble coming out of anesthesia (took him 3 days to wake up) but he's been deemed a "slow metabolizer" and again, he was VERY small and had a LOT done.
The hernia repairs themselves.. he was very sore and defensive of the area, and his scrotum turned black. they kept checking it for necrosis because it looked pretty ugly. But the soreness only seemed to last a day or two. The bruising took a long time to go away, but it just looked bad, it didn't bother him.
