Babies: 9 - 12 Months

help-anyone up?

I just got DD up for a feeding and she is warm. She is 9 months. I took her temp in her ear and it was 99.6. Should I take her temp under her arm or rectally for more accurate temp?

Re: help-anyone up?

  • 99.6 is high for her age but its not consider a fever till it breaks 100. If it would make you feel better i would take it again after she is done eating any other syptoms?

  • Our pedi recommended under-arm temps.  When/if you call the pedi, just make sure to tell them that it was taken under her arm.  Hope your DD gets to feeling better soon!
  • Thanks ladies...no other symptoms, but I am worried about putting her back down to sleep. She typically sleeps another 2 hours. ugh
  • I was told to take it rectally but I wouldn't call it a fever until it passes 100.6. GL I hope she feels better soon!

  • When I suspect a fever I take it rectally - more accurate.  (If I just want to get a ballpark I do it under his arm.)

    I hope she's ok!

This.  If I take it in the ear or under his arm (it's an open orphance and really inaccurate) I always add a degree.  That's what the Pedi told me to do.  GL!!

  • could she be teething? teething causes low grade temps
  • I know I am late to this but with infants usually rectally is the most accurate. We had our first temp issue and 100.4 is considered a fever. They won't even see you in our office unless it is 103 and you have been giving medicine and it doesn't come down for 72 hours.

They told me to do Motrin then 4 hours do Tylenol and keep repeating that.
