  • That does not sound like a period to me.  I think you need to call your on call OB.

Also, put on a heavy pad.  If you soak through it in an hour head to the ER.

  • Just wanted to add....

    Passing alot of clots=not AF

and if it IS AF then it's still not normal. You could have retained products of conception even at this point, it's happened to people at 1 mo pp in the past. Please get checked out ASAP. Better to be safe than sorry.

  • It might be different for me because I delivered vaginally, but I experienced something similar 2 weekends ago (soaked through overnight super pad in about 5 mins! and passed large clots). My OB said if the bleeding didn't slow down after 15 mins to head in to the ER. I did and they did u/s to make sure there wasn't any part of my placenta or anything left in me. Results were inconclusive but the bleeding slowed down so they sent me home. The ER doctor mentioned it possibly being AF but there is NO way! I also had some lower abdomen and back cramping, but nothing bad.

Saw my OB the next Monday and he prescribed meds to make my uterus contract more. Since then the bleeding has gone down to spotting and is much better. I still have to keep an eye on it though. OB said it's probably just nothing and it sometimes happens, but if the bleeding picks up again, we'll have to do a D&C.

If you continue bleeding a lot, or like PP said, bleed through a pad in an hour or 2, then I would definitely head in to the ER. Better to be safe then sorry! Hope everything's ok for you.

  • This happened to me 1 month pp. Bled through a super pad is 5 min, ran down my leg and pooled on the floor was also 2 cm dilated.. Also passed clots the size of large chicken breasts. Had to have an emergency D & C and am now anemic. Go to the ER, its the best thing you can do...
