Granted I think sharing the fact that as teachers we have emotions is important for my students to see, but this wasn't at all planned.
A students explained in a small math group I had pulled back that he wouldn't be at school after Friday because DHS is taking him since he can't behave.
I dismissed the group and continued to talk to this student who informed me that DHS had come last week and talked to his parents. His mother told him that if he didn't behave they would take him away when they come back to visit again.
I actually started crying while trying to explain that DHS did not take children away for not behaving. I can't believe someone would tell a 9 year-old something like this. It's so heart-breaking! It's days like these that being a teacher is so completely emotionally draining.
Re: I cried in front of a student today
I'm sorry. I am reading heartbreaking personal biographies so I feel you.
I have especially been hating teaching this week. It won't help that I get observed in my worst period tomorrow, AF came today, AND our break next Tuesday seems like FOREVER away.
