light brown spotting

i know this gets posted all of the time - just need to try to calm my nerves before calling the doctor tomorrow morning (no one on call at night).  today i noticed some very light brown spotting - so light that i wasn't even sure if i was seeing it or imagining it (i had a miscarriage in august so i am paranoid).  tonight, though, i definitely notice it - very light brown and enough that i can see it in a pantyliner.  reminds me of the miscarriage and freaks me out.  is it ever "normal"?

Re: light brown spotting

  • I had light brown spotting one morning from 6am-11am.  Called the dr. the next morning and got me in the next day.  My spotting just lasted that one day.  Very light brown and I was freaking out also!  I went to the dr. and the baby was just fine.  She said it happens to about 80% or women.  I was 7wks and 3days!  GL

  • I had it yesterday too but it is gone today.

What to Expect When You're Expecting, my doctor, and my friend (who had spotting all through her pregnancy and just delivered a healthy baby girl) all assured me it was no biggie!

If it is heavy and red and accompanied by cramps, then it's time to worry a little and call the doc..but until then, you're good. :)

  • Try to relax and from everything I've seen posted on here if you are spotting, light brown is a good color! I have not had any spotting with this pregnancy, but my mom said she bled quite a bit at the beginning of her pregnancy with me. Obviously she had a very healthy baby after 9 months!

  • I had light brown spotting at 4w1d.  It only lasted 24 hours.  I went in for an u/s today and everything looks ok.  I also had a m/c at the end of Aug so I'm super paranoid right along with you.  Everything seems fine though.
  • It's normal, don't worry.
  • I woke up to brown spotting this morning that has been on and off all day. Got into my doctor at around 1 pm and had an U/S. Baby had a strong HB and is doing fine. Dr. said he doesn't really know what the bleeding is about, but I shouldn't worry.

  • It's normal.  I had it at about 5 weeks.  Did an u/s at 5w4d and 6w4d.  Everything was just right.  Brown blood is old blood.  It could be leftover blood or from implantation bleeding.  Check with your dr but I wouldn't worry unless your dr is worried.  GL

  • I had a miscarriage in June.  My Dr. sent me in for a ultrasound at 5 weeks to be sure all was ok.  The day after I bled bright red for about an hour or two with no cramping.  After that I've been having the light brown spotting.  She sent me a week later for follow up ultra sound and all was ok.. Still spotting, but all is well.  I'm a nervous Nelly right now because of my history.  Let's relax and take it easy together.
  • thanks, all, for your nice and helpful thoughts.  i'm 7 weeks 5 days today, and we heard the HB last friday at an ultrasound at 7 weeks.  so i am trying to tell myself that all is fine and i'll get in touch with the doctor tomorrow to talk with her.  so hard to relax, though!
  • I've been having light brown spotting for almost a week. Doctor seems to think it's no cause for concern, but I've only talked to them on the phone. I'm debating trying to get them to move my u/s up from the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to tomorrow or Friday. Everyone says brown spotting can be normal, but after you've been through a m/c like you and I have, we just need to KNOW! I'm definitely freaking out, and have had a hard time being excited about being pregnant, and being almost 8 weeks pregnant since this spotting has been going on. I totally sympathize with you, and hope we both get good news!
  • I had some around 6 weeks and then went for u/s at my 1st appt. and all was well.  The spotting stopped after like 2 days.  Then this past weekend I noticed a little more brown spotting.  It was gone Monday and yesterday now today it's back.  I called the Dr. b/c it was freaking me out and they said it's most likely nothing to worry about but since I was all nervous they are doing an u/s tomorrow just to be sure.

  • i've been spotting light brown for two weeks two days now, and my doctor said it's nothing to worry about.  i had bloodwork done, and an ultrasound and everything looked great.  saw the heartbeat and everything.  i know it can be very stressful, but try not to get too worked up just yet (i know, easier said than done)  :)
