Age at switch from 2 naps to 1?

I'm watching my nephew one morning a week (he'll be one next week) and am just wondering if you all remember when this transition from 2 naps to 1 began. I can't remember anymore, but he's been really inconsistent about his morning nap lately when he used to be more solid on that one. Thanks.

  • I think it typically occurs around age 1.  Some kids nap twice a day until later though.

  • Sophia's almost 16 months and she is still taking 2 naps.  Sometimes, if I have something to do in the a.m., she is able to skip her morning nap and just take an afternoon one.

DS is 14 months and this is exactly where we are with him.  In daycare centers they usually force them to 1 nap/day over age 1, but I don't think that it is something that has to happen right at 1.

  • DS was down to one nap a day by his 1st birthday.
