NT-where do you stand?
What are your thoughts on getting the NT? Have you made a decision about this yet? If so, what helped you to make your decision?

I get the not doing it because it's expensive and you are young. But really, the statement about "all the false postives" isn't very accurate. You're not told your baby does or does not have Downs after the NT scan. You're only told a statistical probability of the baby having Downs. It's only considered a "screen positive" if your odds exceed the cutoff (my OB's cutoff is 1 in 300). 1 in 300 by the way is still extremely low odds that the baby has Downs. And, only 5% of woman tested are told they have a "screen positive" result and the baby doesn't actually have a problem.
It is covered by our insurance, but we're not doing it.
I just don't see the point honestly. We wouldn't abort, and I have no desire to spend my pregnancy worrying about a disease my child may have.
I just basically asked this on the multiples board... I think I'm opting out... especially since the test can have abnormal results, even when not abnormal, due to multiples....
a lot of people are saying if your insurance covers then get it for the extra u/s, but I don't want extra stress...i FEEl like everyone is healthy, plus the quad screen is covered & they do that second tri, so that's what I'll do I think.
(Oh, my Dr. said he wouldn't advise his own daughter who is my age to get it, at 22 your chances are 1 in 1600...)
It is fair enough that you don't want the stress of testing or that you will deal with it no matter the results.
But when people talk about "all the false positives" it is simply reinforcing a misperception about the test.
DH and I decided we'll take any non-invasive tests they would like to offer us.
Apparently its not very popular in our particular clinic, but I'm all for it.
Really, if they offer it to you (or its covered by your insurance) I would suggest taking a genetics class if it is availible. That made everything a lot clearer.

My wording was off sorry! I know how it works and I've had 3 friends that got the higher percentage chance results (all went on to have healthy normal babies) and seeing the stress/fear/heartbreak they went through for the rest of their pregnancy just put it off for me! Bad choice of words though!
We did it yesterday because it was covered by insurance. But i went into not as a "panic about testing" but rather a chance to see our baby.
We had a 45 min sonogram where she showed us EVERYTHING!! and just got to sit and watch our LO move and kick and that was amazing.
We had ours last monday (Dr said baby looks Great!) It was a very reasonable copay for me to do the scan and even though we aren't considered to be at risk, and I would never terminate the pregnancy based on the results, my husband and I decided the non invasive testing couldn't hurt.
If I'm being totally honest, we mostly decided to do it for an extra chance to get a peak at our LO, and I don't see anything wrong with that!
Plus, if the test had shown any indication of a health issue, it would have given us extra time to learn more about our LOs condition and better prepare ourselves for raising the baby.
This exactly - I can't wait to see the LO squirming about. We're not particularly worried about the findings, but my NP did say that this is one of the appointments that DH should be at just in case we need to support each other. Something to think about. Ours is 12/4.
This exactly! I just want to see my LO again before 20 weeks. I like to be prepared and to be well educated just in case. I think I'll be a better parent if need be.
