Baby Names

what's easier for you to choose? boy or girl names?

DH and I cannot agree on a girls' name (see below) but we had no problem coming up with boys' names that we like.  I guess it's because we chose family names for a potential boy, but we have very few girls' names that we like on our family trees.  It took us forever to agree on what to name our daughter, and I won because I pulled the "it's my Gramma's name" card :)

Does anyone else find it difficult to come up with names for one particular gender?

Re: what's easier for you to choose? boy or girl names?

  • They are both hard! Boy names are harder for us to choose & agree on. Girl names are hard because we agree on a few but then contemplate if they are too popular. Sigh.

  • i found boys' names easier, too. my LO didn't have a name until 4 hours after she was born... i just couldn't make up my mind. and i had 21 weeks to decide!

  • Girl names, by far.  I'm not even a feminine person either.
  • Boys were easier. We had a lot of good family names to inspire us.

We found out yesterday that we are having a girl.    Surprise

We are very excited about that. But we are not sure what to call her!

  • Boy names are more difficult for us to agree on. We want something traditional/classic but not boring or too common.

Girl names seem more abundant and easier for us to agree on.

  • We haven't started whittling our list down yet but right now the girl list is at almost 100 and boy list around 50. It will be interesting to see what we're having...
  • Boy names are way easier for us to agree on, and we are in love with our favorite boy names. Our favorite girls names are just so-so for each of us, and we can't agree on any one name together. If this is a girl, she'll probably be nameless for a long time...

  • Girl names are hard for me. I have a whole list of boys names that I could use, but the only girl name we liked we used. If I have another DD in the future it'll be SO HARD to come up with a good name for her.

  • Boy names are so easy. It was like do you like X? Done.

Girl names are hard because Hubs vetos them ALL.

  • We have a boy's name already picked out, and it was easy because DH was kind to easily agree to name a boy after my father.

We have several girl's names on a list. We're going to let them sit there until I actually get KU and find out what we're having... lots of time to make that decision lol!

  •  DH doesn't like boy names and we both like so many girl names that it's hard to narrow it down. I guess boys are harder though for us because DH doesn't like them.
  • Girl names will be the death of me.

Boy names were SO easy. Lucas was a name I loved and it was our boy name. Here was the Matthew conversation:

    "Honey, do you like Matthew?"

    "Yeah, actually I really do!"

"Great! That is one of our boy names."

    DONE!

  • We have so many awesome boy's names that we both completely love!

If we had male sextuplets, we'd literally be all set

Girls names however are a completely different story. We can't come up with one, not one, that we both like, let alone love

  • We had a much easier time picking out boy names for some reason.  We're having a girl, so we need to figure something out!
  • for us the boy name was much more difficult.  We had a girl name for DD before we were married and we had one w/in a week of finding out we were pg this time around......dont get to use it tho :-)  We just picked a boy named last week......took us almost 18wks to decide

  • I think girls' names are much easier because there are so many pretty ones around.  There seem to be more of them, somehow, to choose from than for boys.  We have one good boy name picked, but I want a back-up in case he doesn't look like that name (if it is even a boy).  Same goes for girl names, but I expect there we will have several back-ups.

  • We found girls names a lot easier (still hard but easier).  We at least have a girls name picked out.

We can't agree on a boys name at all - or even come up with possibles.

  • We agree on girls name and have a huge list.  Boys names are very hard for us, the list is very small.  There are boys names that I like but can't see really using (sound too soap operaish).
