RP of comment : soothing techniques

My DD was really colicky, cried, screamed, the works. Here are a few things that helped: babys bliss gripe water, me drinking chamomile (she can have a little too) or rooibos teas, I has to eliminate all caffiene and chocolate from my diet as well as anything acidic or gassy, holding LO in a hot shower out of the water or in warm water while nursing, nursing her in the tub, cradle hold while jiggling and patting her bum to the beat of 'staying alive' (it's the same rate as your heart), swaddling and turning out the lights while rocking in the bathroom with the fan on, gentle massage, laying her btw me and the dog (they are very very sweet with her), lavendar oil in her bath or in her room, rain noises and gentle music (she's still happier with music playing), prewarming her bed or bouncers, swings...some kids like something on top of their heads (obviously supervised), and lots and lots of patience.

  • This is a lot of the exact things that our swing does, which is why we bought it, just incase we ended up with a baby with colic... Here's a RP of what I just answered in a previous thread. The main components that ease colic are incorporated into the swing- the arcing motion, the swaddling blanket that hooks into the seat harness, the canopy to keep light out and allow for less stimulation, the vibration and variety of sounds, the 4 position seat and reclining options, etc, etc...

we have the Graco Sweetpeace Soothing Center (https://www.diapers.com/Product/ProductDetail.aspx?productid=21020 ). It's the best swing I've found and is specially designed for colic. It swings in an arc motion to mimic a mother's rocking motion. It can do side to side, front to back, has adjustments for reclining the seat. It has play music, quiet time music, womb sounds, 6 speeds, and you can plug your Ipod into it too. The seat has toys, a swaddle blanket attached, and a canopy, and vibrates. The best part is that you can pop the seat out and put your carseat into it so they can rock in the carseat if they've fallen asleep without disturbing them. The seat can also be used on the floor as a bouncer type seat...

So with alllll of those features we were sold! We LOVE it! It will only take a Graco carseat, don't know which seat you have? HIH!

you can buy the little tummys gripe water at target. walgreens also has gripe water. there's also "colic calm" which is AMAZING. you can get that online.

  • Also check out Dr. Sears on fussy babies...I wish I saw this sooner; it pretty much summed up everything about DD and what would soothe her.
