A waiter asked me "how old is she, about 7 months?" Um no, double that. Then later that day we were at Target, and an associate said "What are you getting her for Christmas? What is she, about 3?" All in the same day.
Um, really? How can people be that far off? It amazes me how all over the place people are. If you're that out of touch with kids ages, why would you even take a guess? Do people constantly do this with your LO? It annoys me, I don't know why.
Re: Are people weird about your LO's age?
I'm horrible with guessing ages and never do. It amazes me how much other people guess though. We always get, what's he like 3, 4? No fool he's 1 and a half.
All the time.
I constantly get things like, "Oh my goodness! It seems like someone so little shouldn't be able to walk so well yet!" I even get this from other people with young children and they're generally pretty amazed when I say, "Yeah, she does walk well, but she's much older than you probably think. She's almost 2 y/o."
My sister and I were talking about this just today. Even to us dd seems MUCH younger than she really is. She is absolutely tiny (smaller than her 5 month old cousin!) and has a speech delay, so I think most people tend to think that she must be right around a year old.

People have nothing to compare to, or they're just dumb
It's similar to when people would comment on belly size during pregnancy. "OMG, you're HUGE you must be ready to pop any day now" and "Wow, you're so tiny!" all said in the same day because they're comparing you to who knows what or have no idea anyway.
LOL
we always get people thinking she's older, at least 2. She has really long hair and is ahead in the physical stuff, so I guess I can see that.
That's a very good analogy, people were telling me "you must be due any day now" in April, when I wasn't due until August. Then they would even proceed to tell me "oh no, you won't even make it a couple more weeks, I'm sure!" as if my baby would be born 4 months early just because they thought I was big. Yeah, that's how it happens. [eyeroll]
The plumber thought DS was 2; at the time he couldn't walk and was 15 months old. Not THAT far off, but I'd imagine a 2-y.o. could walk, wouldn't you?
Everyone always thinks he's older than he is because he's very tall and has squishy round cheeks.
