When I had dd I had an intrathecal, which is often referred to as a walking epidural. I loved that I was still able to get up and walk around but that it eased the pain. It did wear off and since it's a single shot instead of a line put in, they had to give me another shot. But I felt better being able to feel my legs.
from my understanding, it's less meds but still inserted in the back. lets you walk around instead of bed restriction. i'm going to have to do further research to see if my hospital offers it and if it's something i'm gonna try and do but it does sound like a nice option...
I think they sounds like a great alternative to a full epidural. I wouldn't like the feeling of the full epidural, but doubt I'll be able to stand the pain without something!
Re: anyone had or planning on having a walking epidural?
I agree. At least it is good to know that if it doesn't work the first time, you can get another one.
I work in L&D as a Tech and in 3 1/2 years, I've never even heard of a walking epidural.
