First off a slowcooker and crockpot is the same correct?

I am looking to purchase a good crock pot this thanksgiving. I have never owned one and neither have i tried any crackpot recipes. However I am want to give this a try. Recommend a good crock pot/slowcooker.

Re: recommend good crockpot

  • To be honest, I love my Rival Crockpot I bought in Target for $20. (Yes they're the same - Crockpot is just the Rival brandname for a slowcooker). That said, if I bought one now I'd get one with a timer that switches it to warm when it's done.

  • Mine is a Rival. I have had it for a long time. I need to put more water in it then recommended because there may be a crack in it. I would look for something with a really good seal on it. Also, make sure the crock part comes out for cleaning, they mostly do but they can be heavy. I get the crockpot liners so it's an easy cleanup.
  • p.s. Not Your Mother's Slowcooker is a good crockpot recipe book

  • I had a Rival Crock Pot that we got as a wedding gift and I thought it cooked way too hot! If I did leave something all day while at work, I would come and it would be burned. :(

I checked reviews and the cheaper Hamilton Beach ones rated much higher. I got one of those and love it so much more.

Here are the reviews if you want to check it out.

    Good luck :)

  • I am getting this one with a 20% off bed bath and beyond coupon.  It is programmable (a must in my opinion), has a simmer option in addition to the warm, low and high settings which no other crockpot has from what I have seen and it is small enough for our 2 person family so we won't burn everything.

  • There was a long thread on this topic, maybe a week or two ago?  If the search feature feels like working today, you might find it.  Otherwise, I recommend my Rival crockpot that came with two ceramic inserts - one for the full size (6 quarts) and one divided into two 3 quart compartments.

  • I have the Hamilton Beach stay or go slow cooker, I got it as a wedding gift when we got married 3 years ago but I only took it out of the box like a month ago. So far I made ribs and beef stew and both came out pretty awestome. The sides don't get to hot, the lid locks so you can carry it to go ( hence the stay or go name) and theres a spoon that clips into the lid.

It has a high, low and warm option.

Go to Hamiltonbeach.com and you can compare all of their slow cooker products.

  • make sure you get one with a digital timer setting!  its awesome!!  i think mine is likely a rival, but i am not sure...it has a timer setting so i can tell it how long i want it to cook at hi or low or whatever and then it will switch to "warm" until i get home :)
