I had a Rival Crock Pot that we got as a wedding gift and I thought it cooked way too hot! If I did leave something all day while at work, I would come and it would be burned.
I checked reviews and the cheaper Hamilton Beach ones rated much higher. I got one of those and love it so much more.
Here are the reviews if you want to check it out.
Good luck

I am getting this one with a 20% off bed bath and beyond coupon. It is programmable (a must in my opinion), has a simmer option in addition to the warm, low and high settings which no other crockpot has from what I have seen and it is small enough for our 2 person family so we won't burn everything.

I have the Hamilton Beach stay or go slow cooker, I got it as a wedding gift when we got married 3 years ago but I only took it out of the box like a month ago. So far I made ribs and beef stew and both came out pretty awestome. The sides don't get to hot, the lid locks so you can carry it to go ( hence the stay or go name) and theres a spoon that clips into the lid.
It has a high, low and warm option.
Go to Hamiltonbeach.com and you can compare all of their slow cooker products.
