1st Trimester

Anyone having trouble brushing their teeth???

So I haven't had TOO much m/s.  A little quesy but not throwing up...but it always seems to happen after I brush my teeth.  I'm fine when I wake up...shower and get ready for work but as SOON as I brush my teeth I feel sick.  Is it just a coincidence with the timing or is anyone else having the same problem???

Re: Anyone having trouble brushing their teeth???

  • Um.  YES!  My gag reflex is super sensitive!  I feel nauseous when I wake up, then I eat and feel better (sometimes), and then I have to brush my teeth.  I dread brushing my teeth, and forget flossing!

  • Just visiting from second tri :)  I had this happen....a lot.  And actually it still isn't gone completely!  I find that usually a lot less toothpaste, even if I had to make several passes at it, helped.  And I heard Tom's of Maine toothpaste is less foamy and has helped some people.

  • I dread brushing my teeth. I brush...puke....brush...puke! Its a?vicious?cycle! I feel like I've been neglecting my poor teeth and I dread going to the dentist. Luckily its not til 2nd Tri. I just try to be less aggressive especially when brushing the inner sides of my teeth and my tongue.

  • I had this with  my first pregnancy. My gag reflex never fully recovered and I am just waiting this symptom out this this time!

  • Not with brushing yet, but I did want to say my gag reflex is super sensitive. A simple cough makes me want to puke!
  • Gag fest!

  • I have this issue and heard that breathing through your mouth helps. Also, I found that I don't have as much issue with Cinnomen flavoured toothpaste..
  • Oh I'm so glad I'm not alone! I have experience the coughing thing too! I had a sinus infection recently and every time I would cough I thought I was going to throw up.  I sure hope it gets better!
  • I gag and dry heave EVERY time I brush my teeth - I dread it. However, it is totally worth it for the end result :)
