How/where do you dry your wool?

I washed/lanolized two pairs of longies last night and put them on a sweater rack in the bathroom tub to dry them- and they're still soaking this morning!

Did I do something wrong? (I rolled them up in a towel and pressed out water before hanging them!)

Where do you dry yours?

Re: How/where do you dry your wool?

  • I usually put them in the guest bedroom on a drying rack on the floor.  Depending on the weight of the wool it does sometimes take a few days to dry for me.

Edit: and if I'm in a hurry for them to dry sometimes I'll put a fan on them

  • I wash them in the sink in our half bath/laundry room, roll them in a towel and press out excess moisture and then either hang over the towel bar or over the plantation shutters on the window.  The soakers may take 48 hours but the longies and heavier wool items take a few days.

  • I find my wool dries much faster if I put it through a spin cycle in the washing machine before laying it out.  After I do that, I lay it flat on my drying rack and it takes about 24 hours.  The time increases a lot if I don't spin it out first.
  • Mine take a couple days to dry.  But, I just put them on a drying rack and sit there until dry.  I check every now and then.

I plan on doing this from now on.  I only recently heard about it.
