I don't know how many of you are new to the bump

...but to make reading all the abbreviations easier, check out the bump unofficial glossary in my siggy. And feel free to read the CIO link.

  • Seriously? I just said to help you read all the abbreviations check out the link in my siggy. It's only to make reading the posts easier. I don't know why you had to be bitchy about it. I'm not trying to piss people off.

ETA: And I suggested people read the CIO link so that you wouldn't ever think of using it when you had your baby.

  • at first I thought it was to be helpful now I see it's to get people to read the CIO article. Trying to scare parents into your own agenda is never a good thing. CIO works for some and doesn't for others. I think these women are smart enough to figure it out on their own.
  • LMAO  Keep the hormones in check ladies.   And thanks for the link.  I used to have it in mine but it got erased.  :)

Please don't push this opinion on other people. You have to do what's right for your particular baby,

  • Who was asking for the abbreviations?  I guess I missed something.

I am more pissed at the unsolicited parenting advise then the suggestion at reading the abbreviations. What makes you an expert? One article?  Please give me a break. Why not let people figure their own child out and letting them be the expert on their child's needs?

    Thanks any way.

  • Okay, I'm not trying to piss anyone off. And I'm definitely not saying I'm on expert on CIO. I just want everyone to make the best decisions for your baby. If you really think CIO is the best thing for your baby, then that's on you. I really wasn't trying to go and give advice...I really was here for the abbreviations but whatever.

Yes you are and do a little research before you spout off on what you think is best for the masses. How can you say that CIO is not the best for some when you admit you dont know anything about it.

Give me an ever loving break.

  • LOL about your CIO link.  I'm not going to get into a debate about this, but I've seen much better articles and links presented to make the case against CIO than what you've posted.  Also, my opinion on CIO shifted dramatically from my time on the 0-6 board to the 6-12 board.  Just sayin.  Never say never.
  • Okay, I don't know what you're problem is but you need to get over it. I have done research on it but I'm not an expert. Doing research doesn't make anyone an expert. Just makes them educated.

    But for real, chill out.

I did my research with my first DD and guess, what...there are lots of valid theories and methods and you will find out that there is no magic bullet to raiding a child. Some things will work, others wont and all the research in the world can not tell you about YOUR baby.  So good for you that you've read a article on a subject. That doesn't give you all the answers either.

My problem is a newbie mom coming and spewing their 'expertize' on raising children when they have been at it for about a minute and a half. I am no expert on child rearing either but I have enough experience to know that what works for one wont work for someone else and its not your place to tell another parent what that is!

What are you doing here anyway? This is a 1st tri board.

  • I know it's a first tri board...I can read. I was only here to give the link to the glossary. Sorry about your problem, I didn't realize people would be easily offended by a suggestion to read an article.
  • I'm on baby #4, does that make me an expert?? LOL no seriously each one of my kids were different.... there is no cookie cutter method to this.

  • I'm pretty anti CIO, but lord almighty. Talk about pushing an agenda.

This is an extremely random post (in regards to the CIO) and IMO unnecessary.

  • Drama on this board needs to stop thats ll i have to say.

It will never stop. Thats the way of the bump. There will always be SOMETHING that gets people up in arms.

I agree. And, it's ended on my part.

Your OP came off really smug and it irritated me.  It continues to bother me because you keep changing your story about your motives in posting here. If you want to debate parenting methods there are boards for that.

I'll back off now but just be honest about why you posted.

    BTW...your baby is beautiful.

  • Thanks.

But honestly, I really was here for the glossary link. I just threw in the CIO link just because. I wasn't trying to tell anyone how to raise their baby or force anything on anyone. I wasn't trying to debate parenting skills either. It was just something I threw in.

  •  Perhaps I over-reacted just a tad??? ;-P
  • Really?  You weren't trying to tell people how to parent? This is exactly what you said:

And I suggested people read the CIO link so that you wouldn't ever think of using it when you had your baby.
  • Ladies, take this with a grain of salt. Her child is 2 months old. Of course no one should let a 2 month old CIO, that's heinous. But, if I had a dollar for every mom on the 0-6 month board with me that was ADAMANTLY anti-CIO that eventually succumbed to the dark side...well, I'd have a lot of dollars.

I would never encourage anyone to CIO if they haven't exhausted every other means. It's not always necessary.

But sometimes being a mom involves putting on your big girl panties and doing the uncomfortable thing for the sake of your child. LOL at calling it "the easy way out," anyone who has done it knows that's a load of bull. Depriving your child of sleep is as harmful as depriving them of food. So if you ever reach that point when you realize that your nursing to sleep habit, for example, has harmed your child's ability to cycle through brief arousals smoothly, as was the case with my child, then you realize you are doing a major disservice to your child.

If the No Cry Sleep Solution works for you, that's fantastic. Didn't work for us. That author is not a doctor. Dr. Ferber and Dr. Weissbluth have a wealth of information in their books about the importance of sleep and how to help your child achieve adequate sleep.

Lots of APers (and I consider myself AP in many ways, actually) misunderstand the purpose of CIO. It's not that the child "needs" to cry, like to expend energy or make themselves pass out, etc. It's just that some children who've come to rely on certain sleep associations like a breast need to be allowed to experience what it's like to fall asleep without that association. And they're probably going to be pissed off about it. And cry.

No, you are not damaging your child. Allowing my child to carry on sleep deprived as he was (10+ full arousals every night, dark circles under his eyes, MAJOR crabbiness all day) would have been damaging.

  • when your kid grows a little older than 2 months, perhaps your views will change on CIO.
