We found out last week that we were having twins - yay! The dr has me coming in for a checkup every 2 weeks. I assumed these came with u/s - but I called and was told I don't have an u/s for my next 3 visits, which is another 6 weeks! Is this normal? I need to know that they're ok, there's still 2, they're growing, etc. Am I being ridiculous?
If there's no ultrasound, then what is the doc going to do - blood, weight, blood pressure? I feel like I need to know exactly what's going to be done at each visit - I don't like the feeling of walking in and not knowing what's coming at me. Thoughts?
TIA
Re: no ultrasound at visit
starting around 12w OB appts will check their heartbeats with a doppler. My OB often would do an US if she couldn't find the HB's easily with the doppler, since with twins it can be tricky.... but other than that- USs are not commonly done for regular OB visits.
The USs I got (after i left the RE) were at 9w at my first OB appt, 12w for the NTS test, 16w for cervical length, 20w for anatomy, then every 4w for cervical length and at the end NST and BPPs. None of the USs except the first one at the OB, and the random quick checks for the heart, were at my OB- all were at my peri.
regular OB appts check the HB, check your urine, weight, measure your belly for fundal height, and answer questions.
I have u/s at every visit, but I am seeing a perinatologist.
My "OB appointments" with the peri are a weight, blood pressure, pulse and urine check (and to answer questions). I have never had my belly measured. I wonder if that's weird.
After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
Like Kimarino I only get u/s at my peri appointments.
At the OB appts, they check HB's with the doppler, weight, BP, urine and at 24 weeks, they started measuring my belly.

We didn't have our first u/s til 11 weeks and that was only because I was having some pain on my side and have a history of cysts. Our next u/s was at 12 weeks for the 1st tri screening. After that we had to wait 4 weeks, at 16 weeks and since then we do them every 2 weeks. My peri does all my u/s, not my OB. My OB just listens with the doppler. But the OB checks urine for protein and bp etc. Everyone has a different set-up, but your situation doesn't sound to odd. I know it's hard to wait, but you can do it! GL!
Every OB, MFM, Peri practice is different. I too only get my U/S at the MFM every 6 weeks.
My schedule is as follows -
11 weeks - first OB appt, found out it was twins
16 weeks - saw OB again, no U/S, no doppler
19 weeks - saw MFM for anatomy/measurement scan
From then on, I have seen my ob every month. No U/S, but did get to hear the HBs on doppler once
I am seeing the MFM every 6 weeks for growth U/S until the end.
