I'm feeling so down

Lately I've been so depressed. Since I got pregnant, my friends and family have thrown me on the back burner. DH and I don't go out and enjoy each other. I work so hard all week long and I go to school and I don't feel appreciated. I feel so down, and I've began wondering if I have prenatal depression.

Re: I'm feeling so down

  • Aw, I hate that you're feeling down.  Maybe you and DH need to take a day together and rekindle.  Do something fun together, talk or watch a movie.  Are you worried about too much stuff right now to let yourself relax?  Or is he?  Talk to him and tell him how down you feel...

  • Ive been feeling the same way lately. I just go home and go right to bed most of the time because Im crying about something stupid or just feel crappy. DH doesnt understand so I feel alone
  • I don't know much about prenatal depression but I hope you feel better soon.

My advice...Ask your DH for help around the house so you don't feel overwhelmed. Plan a date night just the two of you.  Reward yourself with something you really enjoy- the spa, shopping, movies.

Do you take DHA?  I feel it has really helped with my overall mood which is a total bonus to what it is actually doing for baby.

  • Yes, that is a possibility you have prenatal depression.  I know I've had bouts during this pregnancy where I feel SO overwhelmed and "down".  It's completely normal, but you DO NEED to talk to someone. At best your hubby, but if you can't seem to bring yourself to talk to him, make an appointment with your school counselor.  I'm a student too and have benefited in the past with counseling for STRESS. I was taking a full time credit load, working, my DH was in school, all while taking care of three small children....I was OVERWHELMED and it was such a benefit to TALK to my counselor every week on how I was feeling, cry, let it out to SOMEONE and talk about ways I could cope and manage it all. It was great. You should call them today and make an appointment. I'm sure it's free for students. Know you're not alone. Also, if you seem to get "down" now, it could be a possibility that you might have post partum depression too. (Not for sure, but maybe) and it would help to get counseling now, and be able to continue post partum if you need to. Good Luck Honey. The sun will shine after the rain!
  • That sucks that you are feeling so bummed. The nurse at the maternity clinic spoke to me about this and although it is not a problem for me she said that if I ever feel like it is to make sure I talk to them about it. Can you talk to your doctor or nurse about it?

    Good Luck!

  • I totally understand and have been feeling the same way. ?I feel like all I am is a motel for this baby and I'm not allowed to do things I enjoyed before I got pregnant. ?Going out, even for dinner is not the same (I enjoy a couple glasses of wine usually), exercise classes (gave that up because I would have to stop every 15 minutes to pee), a good nights sleep (on my stomach) or just carrying on a normal conversation without mention of the pregnancy/baby, etc. ?I just keep reminding myself it's all worth it once LO is here...but it's hard. ?I would suggest making time for yourself, get a pedi/mani or take a day to yourself. ?I'm working on it!
