Trouble TTC

How long before its considered TTTC?

We are on our 13th cycle.  I don't really think that qualifies just yet as TTTC.  But I don't know.  What would you ladies consider?  If we decided to start having tests run in January(if I'm not ku), would that be a good time frame?  A little back ground, I had my daughter 13 years ago, and was on bcp since she was born, until a year ago when we got married.  DH hasn't had any kids.  TIA for your opinions, ladies!

Re: How long before its considered TTTC?

  • If you have been trying for over a year then I would say it's time to go see and RE. They will run diagnostic tests on you and DH to make sure everything is okay and figure out why you haven't conceived yet. Good luck. This process it so frustrating.

  • Medically speaking, infertility is considered not being able to get pregnant in 1 year of actively trying or 6 months if you are older then 35.

From what I read in your post, you sound hesitant and not ready to take that step. Not everyone is ready to step into testing and treatment right at the 12 or 13th month mark, so sit down with your husband and discuss your next steps. Yes, you should get testing if you are ready. If you are not ready, find a time frame you are comfortable in doing it.  There is no written rule where you MUST seek treatment right away. I waited, I was not ready for doctors prodding right away. If you are older though, do not wait too long as age does play a role in success of treatments.

A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

This.  Though I also want to point out that we're coming up on the time of year (December) when a lot of reproductive endocrinologist offices take time off for the holidays.  For that reason, January might be the perfect time to start testing.

Oh, and I grew up in Eugene!  Went to Sheldon HS.  :)  How's the weather out there?

  • Thanks ladies!  I appreciate your thoughts on this.  I'm not really hesitant, I just wasn't sure if it was too soon or not.  And I didn't want to come in here all geared up and have more experience ladies tell me I'm jumping the gun.  If its time for us to start testing, then we are definately ready.  I'm 31 and he is 39 so there is a little concern there.  We want a baby so bad but I've tried to look at it objectively, knowing that it could take awhile.  But I'm really ready to get on with this! lol

Meep!  The weather is great here right now.  Getting cold and foggy.  We had a week of rain, but now its just sunny.  Funny thing is, we just moved back home to Oregon after living in Florida for 7 years! lol  What part are you in?  We lived near Orlando.  My parents and best friend went to Sheldon.

DH and I live in Lakeland.  That is too weird!

Oh, and BTW, TTTC-wise, the Infertility board has a LOT of really experienced and awesome women.  You're more likely to get a quick response to your posts, and you'll likely hear from more people as well. Particularly if your testing turns up some issues, I strongly suggest migrating over there.

Thank you very much for the advise!  I will definately do that.  Thanks again!
  • Not so much what you consider - it's more what's covered from insurance. Most docs/insurance companies consider it TTTC after 12 months (not cycles - I learned that last year) of TTC if you're under 35 and 6 months of TTC if you're over.

  • I'm new to the board here... trying to get all the "lingo". What is TTTC? I know TTC (Been on that road since we got married...)

    Thanks!
