2nd Trimester

Pregnancy and Job Hunting

So, my husband and I have been trying to move closer towards family before the baby arrives...never dreamed it would actually happen, but things are actually falling into place and it just might work out.

My question is this:  has anyone had to look for a job while being 6+ months pregnant?  My hunch is I'll be around 7 months pregnant by the time we move...and my thought is....who the heck is going to hire someone who is 7mos pregnant?  Yeah, I realize it's against the law to NOT hire someone just because they're pregnant...but to me, I just feel like future employers would be really turned off by this.  I should also say that I'm in sales...so if they hire me at 7 mos, I have to go through training, I'm in the field for 1 month and then I go on leave...and my territory gets stranded.

Anyway, has anyone had any experience with job hunting and being pregnant?  I wouldn't worry if I was like 2 or 3 months...but 7 months...that's pretty far along...

Thanks :)

Re: Pregnancy and Job Hunting

  • I got hired at 8 months pregnant for my current position; I started the new job after I came back from maternity leave because it was less disruptive for both my employer and me that way.  If they really want you, they'll work with you, but I'd have a good idea when interviewing how to solve their reservations (like their territory being stranded).

  • I just applied for a seasonal job and I start this weekend. Maybe you could look into that and start with something simple then after the baby is born you could look more into a career job. Just an option though. I know how you feel about looking for a job and being pregnant. I just figured if I get a seasonal job right now I can look more into jobs after the baby is born. I also take classes so for me I only need a simple very part-time job.

  • I tried looking for a job at 6 months with my first child. It was very hard. They don't tell you that its because your pregnant, but you know. I was unsuccessful, but hopefully you will have better luck than I had.
  • I think it would be incredibly difficult finding work when you're that far along, but I wanted to wish you luck on the hunt!?
