NBR: Cell phone service, who do you like?

My DH has T mobile and I have verizon and we are looking to combine. Any suggestions? T mobile is cheaper but the coverage (at least here) isn't as good and he drops calls and can't get service in places. Verizon is more expensive but I have never had a problem getting service. Anyone have sprint or another service that they like? If so please let me know.

 thanks ladies!

Re: NBR: Cell phone service, who do you like?

  • DH used to have Verizon and I must admit, they had the best reception, but the biggest phones I'd ever seen.  We have att now and we love it!  I don't think they are expensive at all, about average.  I would run from T-Mobile...I had a sidekick 3 years ago and when we went on our honeymoon in the mountains, the phone was NOT functional at all.

  • We absolutely love Sprint. We have never had any billing trouble and we both have unlimited everything for $130.00 a month, but their other plans are cheap too. We also never have problems with service. Hope this helps!
  • I can say that no matter how much it was, I would never ever switch from Verizon. I have been with them for at least the past 10 years (before they were even named Verizon and when I had a pager) and every single issue I've ever had has been handled promptly and courteously. Their customer service is just beyond compare in an age when very few companies actually believe in good customer service. Everyone I know who has switched because of the type of phones that were available or because of cheaper plans has switched back. Just my experience, but I am definitely a Verizon customer (at least when it comes to cell phones) for life.

  • we've gone from TMobile to Verizon and wished we'd stayed w/ TMobile after attempting to deal w/ verizons customer service.  we ended up cancelling w/ them and switched to sprint.  their service area isnt QUITE as good as verizon was (but its not bad at all) but the price is great and the customer service is SOOOO much better.

  • DH and I had US Cellular and were very happy with it.  We loved the free incoming (that was a MUST for DH because he uses his phone for HOURS each day for work).  The only reason we changed, DH wanted a carrier that used a SIM card so that he could buy new phones easily (I don't know why he thinks this is necessary, it's not like he goes through phones often AT ALL).  I looked at AT&T because I thought an iPhone would be neat.  My mom also switched to AT&T (family plan), so we added me on her plan, and DH has his own plan (unlimited for $99).  Honestly, I had fewer dropped calls with US Cellular (in the entire 4 years we had them compared to the few months we've had AT&T), but I've heard that iPhones are prone to dropped calls.  GL with your decision.

I have unlimited everything as well (including GPS and internet) for $99 a month.  Some people don't like Sprint but I have never had a problem with them.  I have been with Sprint for 8 years now.

  • I also have US Cellular, but I think they are only a west coast company, correct me if i'm wrong...

I have had them ever since I have had a cell phone.. and I just love them!  Free incoming calls, free mobile to mobile to any other US Cellular person (basically my whole family), unlimited internet and unlimited texting plus 1000 anytime minutes- for our family plan (just me and my husband) is only like 140 a month.. that also includes the insurance on the phones..

i never get dropped calls and they are very helpful in their customer service- you can actually understand the persons speech! and they are reasonable to deal with if your having financial problems, payment plans, extending due date.. etc

    HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

This is amazing to me - Sprint is so shady. I have used their service for probably 9-10 years now and have had to battle them repeatedly over the years b/c of various billing issues. The ONLY reason I have kept them as my provider is b/c of the coverage they provide in my area. I live in the country and if other providers' coverage was better (hello At&T build some towers over here), I would switch in a heartbeat.

Sprint has added services to my account that I did not elect and that they charged me for until I actually noticed and called to cancel/complain. I have also had suspicious charges on my acct so that I requested itemized bills that include all calls. Recently, I stopped receiving an itemized bill and on that bill was charged over $200 in overages. Let me tell you - I was previously on a plan with fewer minutes (only upgraded to more mins for internet service) and I NEVER went over and suddenly I'm over and they don't send me the paperwork to prove it. I call and talk to three people (as is typical with sprint) and the third person promises to reverse the charges - only he doesn't and sprint turn off my phone twice. The second time I was so pissed when I called - I usually am very nice - but the rep basically called me a liar until I produced the name and id # of the rep who said he'd help me before. She reversed the charges but it was such a headache.

I think it must REALLY depend on your area. I had an awful time with Sprint reception. Switched to Verizon and haven't had any problems

  • DH and I have been with TMobile for about 4 years now, but we're planning on switching to AT&T after the baby is born. DH wants an iPhone and we don't like the new plan that T-Mobile is trying to put us on because it's a lot more than what we are currently paying.

  • this is not easy! Thanks for all your input. I would like to stay with Verizon since I have never had a problem with coverage and since we don't have a land line I coverage that I can count on, especially with a baby. Last winter we had a horrible ice strom and no power for weeks. Everything was down except for my cell! I could place and send calls without a problem.

  • We have had verizon for about 6 years or so... we love it. We have service everywhere and they give you 100 bucks towards a new phone every 2 years.  My husbands company also gets us a discount every month (15%) which is nice too :)
  • I love T-Mobile but we have good coverage where we live. I also love that they never transfer me to India for customer service. That would be a factor when choosing a new service if it were me. I hate talking to people I can't understand.
  • I've had Sprint for about 10 years now. My husband has had Verizon and AT&T and switched to Sprint a couple years ago. We have nothing to complain about- good service, good phone selection, and good prices.

  • We have AT&T. Most of my family uses AT&T, so it's free for us to talk to them. Also, they have international plans, so DH can text his family overseas as well. My sister lives in the country and uses Verizon because they have the best rural coverage. I don't know how the prices compare.

  • We use Verizon, and are pretty happy with them.  I have had billing issues with them in the past, but I keep them because I have service everywhere I go.  As with all phone service, you need to watch your bill.
  • We have Verizon. I have used them for the past 9 years. DH had Sprint/Nextel before we were dating. I hated it because I would talk to him and the signal would drop and if he paid his bill 2 days late they would interupt service.

Verizon does cost a little more. But like the saying goes. You pay for what you get.  I rather have quality esp when I am out of the house and need to make a call.  GOOD luck.
