Anyone have a sonohysterography done?

I had my (second) HSG yesterday and today I go in for the sonohysterography test- how do these two tests compare w/pain/discomfort?  Yesterday's test was  uncomfortable during the process but I was fine when it was done.  Any advice would be appreciated!

Re: Anyone have a sonohysterography done?

  • The SHG is easier/quicker than the HSG. My SHG was done in my REs office by my nurse whereas he did the HSG at the hospital. The nurse just sets up like a pap, inserts a catheter then the saline solution and then uses the vag cam to watch it bounce around your uterus on the ultrasound screen. Very quick and painless. Bring a pad though b/c there will be a little leakage.

Good to know.  I have a sono on Saturday.  The HSG was wicked painful for me, so I have been dreading the sono.  Good luck erica2573!

  • My HSG was a little uncomfortable -- nothing major.  I had some cramping afterwards, but thats about it.  My Sonohysterography was a breeze no cramping during or afterwards.  Good luck!

  • I had a terrible HSG with all of the cramping from the dye. However the SHG was so quick, easy and discomfort-free.

    You should be totally fine.

  • I was the opposite of most, my sono was awful, the cramps from the saline were terrible and lasted several hours after the test.  My HSG only hurt because the nurse didn't insert the catheter correctly, I never felt the dye or any pain afterword.

  • Thanks everyone! My RE had me take motrin before the HSG yesterday but didn't recommend anything for today- I'm glad to hear it was better/easier for most! I am surprised that I never had this test done 2 1/2 yrs ago when I first went to the RE!

Ditto. Mine was not painful at all.  Maybe a teeny bit of discomfort when they added the saline. I had a LOT of leakage because my RE pumped me full of saline.  It was a little embarrassing when water started pouring out of my parts onto the floor.  :)

Ditto this.  My HSG was a little painful when the dye was injected, but the SHG was pretty easy and not painful.  The RE nicked my cervix a bit, with the catheter, but I didn't feel it.  I had a bit of spotting from that. I did need a pad, too, because the saline leaks out for an hour or so.
