Donating BM

Has anyone had any experience donating BM?  I have a very good supply, pump 9-12 oz. a session.  I only recently started pumping once a day for a bottle and my freezer supply just from overage is over 100oz. I was just thinking it would be a great thing to do while I could.

I have no idea what to do with all the BM in my house.  I'm afraid I'm going to end up throwing out most of my freezer stash b/c its going to expire before I use it.   Have you donated BM?  How much do you need to donate a week?

Re: Donating BM

  • I've been donating breastmilk for 4 weeks. I also have a very good supply. I have donated over 100 oz, and have about 200 oz in my freezer. I have found that trying to connect with someone in your area that needs it is easier than donating it to a milk bank. some banks charge up to $3.50 an ounce.

breastfeeding support groups are great ways to find a mother who is in need of milk. GL!

  • I donate through milkshare.com. It connect moms in need with those that can donate. I have donated twice to local moms but some people will arrange for shipping. I just was not interested in the hassle. You can do a one time donation or set up an arrangement where you donate on a regular basis. There is no weekly amount that you need to donate. Most moms are just happy to have what you are willing to give. They will also supply you with storage bags to make up for what you used.
