I had a c-section, I really didn't want to ruin my own clothes with all the blood, so I just wore hospital gown the whole time..Hospital robes are itchy, I'm glad I had my own warm robe. I brought 5 different sizes of pillows, I can't sleep unless I'm comfortable. My hospital provided alot of stuff though-underwear, pads, nipple cream...so I really didn't use alot of the stuff I brought.

I agree with the PP. I couldn't have lived without my glasses. I usually wear contacts and almost always forget my glasses when I go places. Don't forget your camera/batteries. Some how I amazingly found time to read a little. I had my own room and LO stayed in the nursery unless she got "hungry" (which they don't yet but she was brought down to nurse for a while) Reading always helps me fall asleep. It was a big help the second night when DH went home and I was all by myself.
Seriously, don't go over board on clothes, underwear, etc. Just wear what they give you. Between bleeding and everything, you don't want to ruin your clothes. And you will have PLENTY of days at home to wear the cute comfy clothes.
I also liked wearing a built in bra tank top in the hospital. My belly was like a big mound of bread dough (I know gross), and it helped to have something "hold it in".
1. Slip-on flip flops (gross floors) 2. Light robe (not nec, but nice when we went walking the halls) 3. Nursing sleep bra (I am a 36h, so I like support) 4. Chapstick
Liked, but not nec:
1. Ipod/computer 2. Makeup - I did put it on - just some mascara
Not nec or used:
1. PJs/clothes other than going home outfit (I wore the gown the whole time because I felt/was such a bloody mess. I did not want to ruin my stuff, plus they had to check me occasionally) 2. Lasinoh cream/pads - they gave me a bunch!
I rec:
1. Earplugs!! I had an IV drip for two nights because I had a fever. It was so loud and kept me up..:( 2. A refillable water bottle (the room had reg 8oz bev cups and it was a pain to keep refilling)

1) Make-up - psh, like I had time to deal with that BS
2) My own Maxi-Pads - TMI, I was bleeding so much I needed the hospital's industrial size pads. The ones from the supermarket wouldn't have lasted 5 minutes.
3) Diapers - The hospital supplied newborn and size 1 Pampers
Top 3 things I couldn't have lived without
1) My Brest Friend nursing pillow...Boppy's suck IMO
2) Anti- Itch lotion...When the Dr. removed my epidural, my whole torso itched like crazy, glad I packed it.
3) PJ's - I hated wearing the gown when all my friends and family were visiting.
Additional things....
4) Socks - The floors made my feet turn black with crud
5) My pillow - The bed was already uncomfortable enough, the hospital pillows were horrible.
6) Chapstick - I was on oxygen for the whole labor (9+ hours), my lips were really dried out by the time I gave birth.
7) Weird one, but a small bottle of lemon juice to flavor the ice chips
1. my slippers/robe - I used socks or just my flip flops
2. my pads/breast pads/underwear, etc. - they provided all of that
3. Snacks - I packed a huge bag for dh during delivery and for us during the stay. Well, dh ate one cereal bar the whole time. He went and ate during my epidural. Other than that he was too distracted to eat. They gave me snacks after the delivery and the rest of the time we ordered food or dh ran to the panera or coffee shop.
They gave us so much stuff (sitz bath, breast pump, diaper bag, vasaline, tucks pads, pads, mesh underwear, extra diapers, etc.) all to take home that I wish we had packed half of what we did and brough an empty bag :-P
