2nd Trimester

sorry this is long.. but its interesting

I'm sure most of you on here dont live with your in laws.. but do they ever drive you insane? especially the mother!?!?

unfortunately, my guy and i had to move back in to his parents place.. but before this we decided to move in with my mother after my dad passed away in Dec. of last year, to help her out and whatnot.. support.. bills, you know, all that stuff..  but we decided to leave for the fact that we were tired of taking care of irresponsible family members that lived there and didnt want to help with any bills, food, rent, etc etc.. and it was just creating stress.. we decided that if my mother wasnt going to put her foot down, then we were going to but our feet down and walk out the door.. and we did just that..

so now were here.. at his parents.. have been since July.. sorry if this is long and seems like it doesnt have a point.. but im getting there.. i promise..

in Aug. we learned of my being pregnant, and when his mother found out.. of course she was excited.. but then she started to push all of these "baby urban legends" on me.. seriously.  ive never really heard of these things, especially coming from my family.

let me just throw some out there for you all..

SUPERSTITION #1: i need to wear safety pins on my panties so my baby wont have a cleft lip

SUPERSTITION #2: my dog is NOT allowed to lay next to me or sleep with me cos then my baby will look like my dog (poor thing is at my mothers house right now cos of this)

SUPERSTITION #3: eat whatever is i crave, otherwise my kid will also look like this if i dont eat it..

SUPERSTITION #4: when my baby is born, he will need to have something red on at all times, to prevent something called "the eye". it it said that if someone likes my baby or wants to hold him, and i dont allow this, then this person does some kind of evil on it and my kid will end up seeing this person watching them all the time

bonkers, no? there is a lot more, but these are the ones that i can remember.

anyway, the lady is driving me totally insane with all of her superstitions. and believe me, it gets a whole lot worse.. but this is long enuff and i dont want to bore you all. im so sorry.

P.S. the other day, i found safety pins in our room.. uuuugh!

  • This post cracks me up!  I don't know how you have kept your cool, I would have gone off on her by now or made DH tell her to shut up!
  • Hi you guys...I'm newish but just had to post when I read this thread - it's so funny! Snoopy - hang in there! I think it just means she loves you...

It really reminds me of when I lived and taught English in Ukraine. There are a LOT of superstitions there, the craziest one was when I showed up to school in a knee-length skirt with no pantyhose (just knee socks). Every woman I met that day scolded me - because without protection (and a LOT pantyhose would do!!!), the cold air would creep "up into my lady parts" and make me unable to conceive!!! They literally told me that!

Good thing I survived, I'm halfway along with my first tomorrow!

Good luck and stay strong. Laughter makes life worth living!!!
