calling all momma's via induction!

Hello, I am scheduled to be induced tomorrow night at 8:00pm. This is my first time and I know what the plan is but I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice or thoughts or things they wished someone would have told them. I'm excited but very nervous and think that some feedback or comments from mommies who have been their might help me not be so scared of the unknown.

TIA,

Julie

  • Check the post right below yours Smile

Don't be scared.  Childbirth (at least a c-section) is not as bad as many people make it out to be.

  • Relax and let your body do its job. Its not nearly as scary as it is made out to be. Just keep in mind that you will get to meet your sweet baby very soon!!

  • -Be prepared to go from just a little dialated to ready to push in no-time-flat.  I went from a 4 to a 10 in 15 minutes because they upped my pitocin big time after I got the epi.

-Get the epi.  I also went from having completely tolerable contractions to excruciating because of the pitocin.

-Take the sleeping pill if they offer it to you.  Sleep while you can, you'll definitely need your rest if you end up pushing for 3 hours like I did.

I'd do it all again though for my little man :)

    Good Luck!

  • it may take longer than you anticipate.  my induction lasted 2 full days plus a few hours.  just be prepared to wait-have lap top, book, magazines etc.

-Get the epi as soon as you feel the need, I was much happier after getting it.

-Take the sleeping pill if they offer it to you.  Sleep while you can, you'll definitely need your rest.

    - be prepared for a c-section, even if you're hoping not to have one. we ended up doing an emergency c and I was a hot mess!

    Good Luck!

  • I agree with everything said before. I wasn't aware that some women throw up during labor and it happened to me. I wish someone would have told me to expect that. I was induced at 8pm on a Tuesday and didn't have my LO until 723 pm on Wednesday. It was a long time so be prepared to wait!
  • I had a GREAT induction... it was a really positive experience. I highly recommend the epi... I had some bad contractions with pitocin and once the epi kicked it was fantastic.

  • I don't know if you are planning on an epi but if you are and If you are scared of the epi...don't be.  I hate needles and she had to stick me three times before she got it in, but it was not bad AT ALL.  I'm talking I'm so scared of needles my DH had to take off work and come with me to the OB appts that required they take blood. I hate them and freak out.  The epi was not bad all.
  • I pretty much agree with pp. Eat a good meal beforehand...I know its hard to because you are nervous but it will be your last meal for awhile, esp. if you end up having a c-section like me!

It's hard to say don't be nervous because it is natural to feel that way, but like everyone said- it's not as bad as I expected it to be and I would do it again in a heartbeat. And I pushed for 3 1/2 hours, tore AND got a c-section!

  • Be prepared to wait.  Induction doesn't mean instant labor.  Be patient with your body and try not to stress.
  • I got induced this AM it can take a while I am still sitting here they started at 8am. Make sure you eat if Dr oks it before you go in. Good luck!
  • if you get cervidal - that needs to be in for 12 hrs before pitocin starts - i started mon. evening @ 9 and had the baby wed morning.@6am ate broth for the time being- EAT before you go!!!!!!! but be prepared when your induced its more painful than goin into labor naturally- also strongly recommend the epi-you wont b able to walk around or anything bc of pitocin - so might as well get epi- its well worth it!
  • I got induced with DD. If you are planning on getting an epi, get it early so it's worth it. I labored on pitocin with no pain meds for 5 hours. Luckily she came out in 1 push, so I didn't have to push long. But I have to say, that was the worst pain ever!! I went completely natural with DS #2 (no pitocin) and was fine.
