BF'rs: Blisters on nipple

DS is sick and nursing around the clock.  It hurts like a biitch when he latches on the left side.  I just noticed that I have a cluster of blisters on it.   They're not milk blebs, but look like  the kind you get from friction.  Am I supposed to  drain them or just let them heal?

Re: BF'rs: Blisters on nipple

  • Usually with a friction blister you should just let it be.  I would put some lanolin on them.  I had one from the pump once but it bursted on its own - lanolin helped a lot.

  • Give it lots of time to air dry and use a little lanolin or breastmilk to help it heal. You might also want to try different holds to see if one of them decreases the pain. I wouldn't drain it.

  • I had those when she was a newborn...bleh!  I feel for you.  Definitely just let them be.  I hope he feels better soon!
