Dr said if DD isn't walking in the net month she'll want to have an eval done. I was just curious as to what this would entail. I'm not super-concerned b/c DD was walk with toys and stand up by herself. I just wanted ot know what to expect just in case we need to go.
Thanks!
Re: Delayed walker.... what happens at an EI eval?
How old is your dd? DD was doing the same things at 12 months, walking with toys and standing up by herself, maybe taking a few "stumbly" steps.
She didnt officially begin walking, as in all over the room or down the sidewalk by herself until 15 1/2 months and her pedi was not concerned.
Average walking age is 14 months, some earlier, some later, from what I've read.
Sorry I know that didn't answer your questions, I don't have any experience with EI, but I just wanted to ease your mind a little.

At ours, they observed how DD played, crawled, sat, etc. They were looking for weak trunk muscles and other issues that were preventing the walking. The largest part of it was asking me a bunch of questions though.
We had DD evaluated at 12 months (not JUST because of the walking...she wasn't pulling up or crawling at that point and couldn't go from lying down to sitting up). We started therapy at 14 months and she started walking the day she turned 17 months.
DS was evaluated for gross motor skill delays at 12 months. At that point he was only army crawling, not pulling up, not rolling from back to belly and couldn't transition from lying down to sitting up. Two women came to our house - a PT and speech therapist. They evaluate motor skills and verbal skills no matter what you called for. They stayed for about an hour and basically played with DS to evaluate him, and asked me a TON of questions. It really wasn't bad at all. The PT who evaluated DS ended up being the therapist who came and worked with him.
It only took a couple of weeks for him to begin rolling and to transition from lying down to sitting. Crawling and pulling up came after that, and he just started walking about 3 weeks ago at 17 months. He had his last EI session on Thursday.
I don't know the answer to your question, but if your ticker is right, DD still has time in the normal range - especially if she's talking w/ toys and standing alone. My DS didn't crawl until 11.5 months and didn't walk until 15.5...our pedi told us crawling by 12 and walking by 18, so DS is doing fine.
