I had my 29 week appointment last Thursday and my midwife brought up how often I should be feeling kicks but when I asked about doing kick counts she said not to worry about them just to call if I noticed decreased movement or anything under 3 kicks in an hour when I was laying down and would normally feel them.
I found this a little odd but this is my first so I'm not really sure, anyone else not doing kick counts?

They have never mentioned to me about doing kick counts, I brought it up and was told as long as I feel her 10 times a day. I think the reasoning is, soon to be moms freak out when doing kick counts if they don't feel them however many times an hour especially towards the end when things start to slow down. All baby's are different and have different patterns. My LO moves a lot but I've gone an hour without feeling her and I know she is ok.
My midwife has never mentioned doing kick counts, but she does ask me about LO's movement at every appointment. She knows that I'm aware enough of my body and my LO's usual activity that I'd notice a decrease in movement and would call.
I wasn't told to do actual counts, just that a red flag shoudl go up if I hadn't felt anything in a day.

My OB said they are not neccesary and can sometimes cause worry when it's not needed. I have no clue how many times she kicks me in a day - but I've definitely noticed if it's been less than normal.
Mine never said anything about it . . then again he also said that my baby was the most active baby he had seen in all 30 years he has been practicing.
Nope, I was told if I noticed a decrease in movement to give them a call. My OB asks about movement at each appointment and will try to get LO to kick at her a couple times.
This.
Nope. Not just a bump thing. With DS my OB had me do kick counts on a regular basis, if I recall like the last 6 weeks? I actually had to chart it on a form that she gave me and bring it in every appointment to show her.
I have a new OB this time around and they also have the "kick count sheet" but she said that it's more like a guideline.. and as long as i feel movement to not worry and that if I feel like it's decreased then just drink water or eat something and lay down, relax and start counting..
not true. I know in AZ midwives have to give you a kick count sheet.
This for me. I would have made myself crazy if I would have had to do them. I figure as long as he's consistently moving, all is good.
Me too.
