2nd Trimester

bathing suit at 18 weeks?

In February my family is going on vacation to Cancun and I will be roughly 18 weeks while we are there.

I'm wondering from you ladies already in your second tri what kind of bathing suit you would plan to bring. This is my first pregnancy and I've read that some women don't really start showing until around the 20 week mark. Is that true? What kind of bathing suit would you plan on?

Re: bathing suit at 18 weeks?

  • I wore a bikini my entire pregnancy last time and if it wasn't winter time right now I'd do the same thing.  I tried maternity suits but they were awful.  I looked and felt much better in my bikini.

  • tankini.   Every person is different in when they start to show.
  • Im just over 16 weeks and Im not showing at all. I keep waiting to look pregnant but its not happening. My dr. said most likely I will start to notice it around 20 weeks. Not sure if this helps you or not but I think you could prob get away with a regular bathings suit, a bikini  or tankini if you are comfortable with it.

  • I got a tankini from motherhood. Most of them are pretty loose so you can grow into them.
  • Target's online store has a selection of maternity swimsuits, but I doubt you'll need one! At almost 17 weeks, I still mostly just look kinda fat ("did that girl have a big lunch?!") and would be avoiding my swimsuits at all costs. :) Maybe invest in a cute coverup instead?
  • I'm very small but I would have worn a one-piece at 18 weeks, bc it looked like I had a gut lol. Now I have a "real" bump and I would wear a bikini.
  • I am 19 weeks and now really starting to look pregnant.  I got a ton of comments at work today.  That being said, I am not a fan of my naked belly - it has more of a "B" shape than a "D" one where it indents where my belly button is.  I like the way I look in baby doll style tops, but I am not ready for a tight maternity T shirt because I think I just look fat in it.  Along those lines, I don't think I would feel comfortable in a bikini!  I think a tankini would be best.  Maybe buy yourself a couple of options and decide what works best for you then?
  • I wore my bikini with DS1.  I'm wearing my bikini again with this one, except I'm beginning to explode out the center of the top.

I would just take a bikini if I were you.  You may have a small bump, but not much.  If anything changes, it will most likely be your chest that becomes bigger.

  • While I don't plan on wearing a swimsuit during pg, I would wear a tankini...this is what I normally wear.

  • thanks ladies!
  • I accompanied my husband to a work conference at the beach at 17-18 weeks. I wasn't really showing, I just looked like I needed to lay off the cupcakes :) I just wore my regular bikini, and because I felt self-conscious, I wore a cotton tanktop over it. A braver friend of mine wore a bikini the whole way through and looked gorgeous.
  • We went to Hawaii at exactly 18 weeks and I wore a tankini that I already had the whole time.  It was a bit shorter on the stomach than usual, but still fit fine.  I didn't really feel comfortable in a bikini and I tried a one-piece on before we left, but it was pulling up too much in the front from my stomach, so the tankini was perfect.
It took 3 1/2 long years, but we finally got our little miracle!

  • I think it will depend on your body.  If you've reached the point where your belly is looking round and pregnant I'd say show that bump off!!  However, there is a chance you will still just be looking chubby.  This is not a fun stage and you might be more comfy in a tankini.  I'd bring both and see how you feel.  Have fun on vacay and post some pics!!
  • I swim laps a few times a week and I've not been able to wear my one piece since about 10 weeks.  It still fit but between the bloat and the nausea, I just couldn't stand to have anything that tight on my belly.  I just got a tankini and I've had to upsize the bottoms in the past few weeks.

  • I bought a tank-ini because I took a water aerobic's class and a "covered body" was encouraged.  But if I were going to cancun, I'd sport a bikini!! Even with the smallest or largest bump..It's a baby. Rock it out!
  • I am just over 18weeks and I still wear my normal tankini, not popping out the bottom just yet.
  • i wore a bikini during my last pregnancy at 33 weeks!   I barely had a bump at 18 weeks so my bikini would  be fine

  • There's some REALLY cute maternity swimsuits out there.  I saw a couple at a mother/baby consignment shop near me, even.  Here's a link to Target's maternity swimwear... you'll probably have to order online, though... I doubt there'd be any in stock at the store.

  • I would wear a bikini no matter how big/small my belly is. I'm not showing enough for strangers to think I look pregnant yet, but I would definitely wear my regular bikini right now.
