I've been keeping track of when I feed Jake, how much he eats, and what's in his diaper when I change him. How long should I keep this up? It is definitely very helpful for now when my brain is mush and I can never remember when I last fed him....but how long did you feel it was necessary to keep track?
Re: If you keep/kept track of feedings...
I asked this question about a month ago.
I have continued to keep track of feedings (not diapers). It is still hard for me to remember times and sides, and it helps me to see patterns and try to plan a routine. It also helps DH--we are on different sleeping schedules so if I am sleeping he can just look at the notebook and doesn't have to wake me.
At 5 months, we're still tracking too. It makes it so much easier when DH is home and takes a feeding or two. He just has to go look at the chart and he knows when she ate last. It also helps us ensure she gets all her bottles in during the day before we put her down to bed.

I stopped for a couple of weeks, but kept finding that I could barely remember the last feeding or nap ... this has helped me figure out his natural "schedule" and later, alter it to accommodate me a little better.
Since E was slow to gain weight, I kept track of feedings all through my maternity leave (12 weeks). Once I went back to work and E started daycare, her schedule got much more regular. Plus, they write down when she eats and how many diaper changes, so there's no need for me to track even if I still wanted to!
So instead, now I track my pumping sessions and how much I get each time!
We still do! However, DS is w/ different people throughout the week and it's just easier to keep a log of when he ate, when he napped, etc.
That's the otehr thing too - as time goes by, what I track changes. Where it used to be more detailed, now it's just what time he ate and whether it was a bottle or solids, his naps, and if he poo'd. I don't care about pee diapers, and I dont' care what the poo looks like. Just IF he did or not.
