2nd Trimester

My husband lost his job (NBR)

My husband just lost his job on Tuesday totally out of the blue. We just got back from a great vacation and were hit with this. I am obviously freaking out because I am almost 25 weeks pregnant and with the holidays right around the corner. I only work part time and all of my income goes to paying for our insurance (which I carry thankfully). We are just praying he finds something soon. I am just so down in the dumps though, it's so hard.

Re: My husband lost his job (NBR)

  • I am so sorry, this is something I always hold my breath about too. My parents have both recently lost their jobs...it just plain sucks. You're in my thoughts tho...I hope it all turns out well and he finds something soon!

  • I'm so sorry, I hope he finds something soon. Which field is he in?
  • I'm so sorry - hopefully he will find something quickly and you and your family won't have the stress of this hanging over you for long. GL!
  • Awww man, sorry to hear that!

Hopefully he'll find something really soon!

    T&P headed your way!

  • Hang in there. It will get better. My DH is laid off as well, but we manage. Thankfully I have a full time job with great benefits. Also, is DH eligible for unemployment?

  • I am so sorry for what you are going through. I can totally relate as my husband was laid off too. Something good will come out of it though -- everything really does happen for a reason. I have to believe that.
  • I am so sorry.  This is honestly something I worry about a lot more so with me than DH.  I am sending T&P's your way.
  • DH lost his job last Thanksgiving and we're still unemployed. I've worked part-time here and there, but nothing that really counts.

Definitely get your DH down to the nearest Unemployment line ASAP if he hasn't already done so. Also, stop by a Department of Family and Child Services near you to get on Medicaid or whatever you state carries. Go find WIC and apply for that.

We are still doing okay after a year of limited income and DH's unemployment will run out after the first of the year. Apply to the above programs and do everything you can to conserve money and resources and it will go a long way!

If anything, enjoy the extra time you get to spend with DH. We tell people we're just enjoying our retirement while we're young and abled-bodied. Smile

    Good luck!?

He already applied for unemployment and it came back saying it's being reviewed even though there is no reason he shouldn't get it. And I did call WIC and they said I can set up an appointment once I know for sure if and how much he will get from unemployment so now we are really just waiting on that. I carry the medical insurance so at least we don't have to worry about that.

That is good to know. At least be assured that they will back pay everything to the day he signed up.

If you need any money saving tips, let me know. I do everything from just making sure things are unplugged when not in use to making my own laundry soap.

    Again, good luck!?

  • I am so sorry to hear that.  I hope that something good comes along soon.

Exactly this. It aint easy, but we're making it. If he is eligible for unemployment, get that process started ASAP.

  • So sorry about that....my husband lost his job when I was 5 months pregnant with my first child.  It is a crushing blow, and I thought our lives would come to an end, but in the end, it was the best thing that happened to us as the job he got after wards was the best one he ever had.

Can he go out and find a temp job in the mean time?

  • I'm sorry to hear that.  DH has been laid off twice.  Both times right at Thanksgiving.  It sucks.  Analyze your finances and start TODAY cutting wherever you can.
  • I hope he finds something soon!
