1st Trimester

Did everyone tell their parents right away?

We're going to tell my husbands family at Thanksgiving and I'm not sure when we're going to tell mine yet.  Did anyone wait until after their first appointment?  I wanted to wait but my In-Laws are very religious and its very important to my husband that they know so they can keep the baby in their prayers.

Re: Did everyone tell their parents right away?

  • I was on the phone with my mom 20 min after BFP.  :)

  • We didn't.  I'm 11 weeks and we haven't told yet.  We're telling on Thanksgiving, I'll be 12w3d then - can't freaking wait.
  • We told ours about 3 days after the positive test.  Mostly because DH had to go out of town for work the day after I took the HPT.
  • We told almost right away (my mom was away so I had to wait a week or so). We told inlaws that night. That's just our way though, to each their own! I went public last week as well...I just felt that the time was right, and I don't regret it, although I know people like to wait a lot longer than I did!

  • We didn't.  We told my mom at 8w3 days, DH's family at 11w3d & my dad at 12w2d.  We are waiting to tell my bro in person when we see him at Thanksgiving.

    DD1 born 5/24/10.

    Missed M/C at 14 wks Feb 2012.

    DD2 born 5/14/13.

    Missed M/C at 9 wks July 2015.

    Expecting someone new 4/17/17.
  • YUP, we told both sets of parents the same day as BFP (IL's were coming over anyways and we just couldn't keep it a secret). We told them right away w/ #1 too.
  • With Charlie, we told them at 6 weeks.  Had to, 'cause my MIL would never let me get away without getting at least slightly drunk on martinis at my own wedding (yup, found out we were pregnant 2 weeks before the wedding).

With this one, I do want to wait a bit.  I'd originally said Christmas, but I'm having a hard time keeping it to myself.  Maybe we'll spill at Thanksgiving... I'll be nearly 7 weeks.  Not exactly the 12 week suggested limit, but I had almost no complications last time (except for some high blood pressure in the last 6 weeks).

  • I have told my mom and my brother, but they are both far away and will not be here for Thanksgiving when everyone else finds out.
  • We told our parents right away.  The timing worked out well because it was right before Canadian Thanksgiving and we were going to see my family, including my grandparents.  No one else knows yet though.  It's getting harder to hide.

  • We told our parents/siblings this weekend. BFP was last weekend. It was nearly impossible for me to keep it a secret that long.

  • I told my parents right aways, like 5 minutes after BFP, however, we haven't told the H's side and have seriously contemplated never telling them and just showing up to in July with the baby Tongue Tied
  • I'm a mama's girl big time! My hubby is in the Military so all I have with my mom is the phone/ internet. The minute I (POAS) I called my mom and she waited over the phone to hear the results. We did the same thing with my DS.Big Smile

  • I told my parents the day after, when the line was darker.

But I told my sisters right away, cause I couldn't believe myself and I needed someone else other than DH to confirm the barely line on the test.?

  • I told my mom the week after when she came to town. As soon as my mom found out the rest of my family did. No one can keep a secret!
  • We found out on a Wednesday....both our Parents knew that Saturday.

  • We did - not really in excitement but cautiousness because we've previously suffered a loss. Telling our parents and asking for prayers was our approach.
  • I couldn't wait. I waited about 30 minutes until my DH got home and then I called my mom who lives out of state. That was a Thursday night and DH was going out of town for the weekend so we went to his parents' house on sunday and told them in person [they live down the street].
  • We are telling our families at Thanksgiving which will be 6 weeks for us. We thought about waiting till Xmas but we really don't want to.

I'd like to tell my extended family at Xmas, but that will only work if my mom can keep her mouth shut!

  • We told my parents a couple days after BFP; DH's parents about a week. Everyone knows we've been trying for so long, that we wanted to share the news right away.

  • Xmas is when we plan to tell both family's. We want to wait till we are closer to being in the clear, and 2 weeks out from our wedding!

  • We haven't yet! We had our BFP on Friday and saw both sets of parents on Sunday and it was really difficult to keep it in. I am really close to my mom and want to tell her really bad, but we just want to wait a little. My first appt is this Thursday (early b/c I have a clotting disorder) and I think we will tell parents after that. I have also had the thought to tell so that they can add to the prayers!

  • We told our parents 2 days after BFP. That was long enough! I am very close with my parents (my Mom is my best friend) so there is no way I couldn't tell them.

  • I called my mom at 530am her time (there's a 7 hour time difference between me and her) and told her RIGHT after I saw the faint line. Then went to the doctor to confirm. Then called her back. She's my best friend. I couldn't have waited.
  • yes as soon as we could see them we told them!  we wanted to announce in person.  Had to wait a few weeks for my side, since they aren't local.

  • I told my parents right at 12 wks. We are still trying to tell the IL's...they always seem not to be home or say it is not a good time to come over. Well, it this keeps up pretty soon they will see a bump.
  • Still haven't told the parents yet. We will either next week or at Thanksgiving.

  • We told our parents about 3 days after the BFP. It's my parents 1st grandchild and I just couldn't wait to tell them and make them so happy.

We didnt want anyone feeling left out so we told DH's immediate family too.

We are waiting till after my 1st appt to tell everyone else

  • We waited until after our 1st appt to tell our parents.  We had told some close friends & a sibling or two before that though.

  • We told both sets of parents the day before our first u/s. I was 7 weeks 4 days. We knew that if the u/s showed something bad we would tell them anyway so we let them know for support. I can't believe I held out that long.

  • Nope. I just told my dad & step on Friday (https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/thread/25894865.aspx) and am telling my mom & step this weekend. I'll also tell all my girlfriends because my home town is really gossipy and I couldn't tell any of them until I wanted the world to know!

We're telling the ILs on Txgiving. Can't wait! The more people know the more real it feels to me.

  • we haven't told a soul--we want to wait until after 1st tri. we want to tell our parents in person, and the first time we'll be able to do that is during the xmas holiday. i'll be 15w then.
  • We told our families within a few days.  I had always been one of those "Oh, I'm not going to tell anyone till I'm past the 1st trimester", but once I got that second line, it was too exciting to keep it to ourselves.  Not to be morbid, but we also wanted people to know, so that God forbid anything happen, we'd have their support, and they wouldn't be thinking, "why is Meghan such a *** lately?".  We waited 4 days before we told our parents, and those 4 days felt like an eternity.
  • So far, I have only told my mom (7 wks). And we're telling DH's family on Thanksgiving since they're all going to be here. I am telling my friends after the first appt, and work--well, whenever I am showing ;-)
