NER - anyone get their period back early after birth?

DD is exclusively breastfed (no pumping, even) and she is not yet eight weeks old.  Yesterday I started bleeding very slightly - I thought it was just residual lochia following the birth.  But this morning I started bleeding again - light, but definitely red blood.  Is it possible I could get my period this soon?  Anyone have this happen?

  • I think MeganBrian got hers pretty early so you may look for her.  I'm not help because I still don't have mine.

  • i got mine back when DS was 12 weeks.
  • Does she sleep longer periods during the night?  From what I understand, it often has to do with the frequency of feedings, so if you were blessed with a great sleeper, maybe she's sleeping long enough that it's not suppressing the hormones well enough?  Sorry - that does suck. :(

Oh that's right.  Either way, I'm sorry - that does stink!  Though if you have a really good sleeper I might not be so very sorry.  Wink

Good god Lotte....I don't have mine either!  I need to go look in the mirror to be sure I haven't turned in to you completely.
  • I bled for 10 weeks pp and then got my period back at 4-5 months pp so I only had about a 2 month break.  grrr....My DD is 15 months and is still bf so I was looking forward to at least a year of no period.  Didn't happen.  I hope that's not the case for you.  That's supposed to be one of the perks of bfing, right?

  • I had lochia until 7 weeks and then my period started back at about 9 weeks pp and DS was EBF when it was back.  It wasn't super consistent, but it never has been either...

  • I got my first af two weeks after my postpartum bleeding stopped.  I EBF for 6 months before my supply tanked finally having to wean at 7.5 months.  I've always wondered if the two are correlated.

  • I bled for 6 weeks PP, started the "mini pill" after my 6 week appointment, and have had three AF's since then (5 weeks ago)

DD is almost 12 weeks old, and I've not bled for maybe a week and a half of that.  Joy...

Oh ... and DD is EBF and eats around the clock.

Yes, she does sleep pretty well for her age - usually 4-6 hours the first stretch and 2-3 hours the second stretch.  I guess if that's the reason, I'm OK with it.  I'd rather get AF than be woken up all night long.  I just hope my supply isn't affected!
