DS has been on his new heart monitor for about a week and a half now and he's developed an allergic reaction to the electrodes. It came out of absolutely nowhere. Today I took them off to give him a bath and his skin has little bubbles under the electrodes. It looks so painful. As soon as I took them off, he screamed bloody murder. He proceeded to scream during his entire bath and didn't stop until he got dressed again. I feel so horrible. I completely lost it during his bath and picked him up and bawled my eyes out while I held him. I just hate seeing him in pain. And I feel like it's my fault even though I know it isn't.
They're sending us some hypoalergenic electrodes to use instead but unfortunately we're pretty much SOL until we get them. Ugh, can someone please explain to me why life can't be easy?!?!
Thanks for letting me vent ladies. This is the one place I feel like I can come to where someone understands.
Re: Ugh... DS has allergic reaction to electrodes
Where can we move them? They told me to place one right above his right nipple and the other right below is left nipple. The electrodes are so big that they literally take up half of his chest. So, I don't see how I can move them anywhere else.
The hypoallergenic ones are smaller so we should be able to move them around a little more.
is this his apnea monitor or something else?
We used a band with rubber leads when we got home. Robbie had trouble with the sticky pads in the NICU.
You might ask about the velcro band.
Also, you can cut down the size of the sticky pads. We did it in the NICU because Robbie was so little and they were so huge.

It's an arrhythmia monitor so it detects AFib, Bradycardia (DS's issue), Tachycardia, and cardiac pulse. They didn't mention anything about the velcro band so I'll have to look into that. The sticky pads he has right now are the huge adult size round ones. I'm not sure why they sent the adult size electrodes for a 10 lb baby! I'll try to cut them smaller and see if that helps. We should be getting the baby sized hypoallergenic ones tomorrow which are the same ones he had in the NICU and didn't have a problem with.
If you still have trouble with them, let me know. I've got a set of unused leads & a band here I could send you, as long as the plugs are the same into the machine. If nothng else, I could send them so you can show them what you want.
I hope the new leads work for you!

That would be great and I'll definitely keep that in mind if these new ones don't work. I'm a little concerned because it hasn't been that long and he has to wear it for a minimum of 30 days.
FWIW, here's the monitor he's on. The leads plug into the unit via a rectangle thingy with a bunch of metal spikes. (I know, real descriptive, right!) There's a picture at the bottom of this link that might make more sense! I'm guessing the leads are some special thing. That always seems to be the way things work out!
https://www1.ecardio.com/Shared/pdf/eTrigger920.pdfdamn. That looks totally different than mine. Mine are metal spikes, but they're just metal spikes, no colored cap things.

yeah, ours was pretty bulky. I'm guessing 5 or 6x as big as the one you have. Probably 2-2 1/2 x as wide, maybe just as much longer and also really thick. It was a PITA to drag around.

Both of my girls used to get those bubbly blisters too. I remember taking Claire to the pedi because I was sure they were infected...all oozing gross stuff.
Hopefully the smaller ones will be better. It helped (a little) when we could move them around. The band was also helpful for us (although I had to wait for them to grow into it. It just wouldn't get tight enough when they were really little...lots of false alarms). Good luck!
