H1N1 vaccine?

Anyone know of any clinics or healthcare providers that have this vaccine available?  I know Oakland County has another clinic coming up this Thursday at the Palace, but I'm sure that's going to be a madhouse and I'll have my LO with me so it's just not feasible for me to stand in an hours-long line with him.  Any info/suggestions?!  TIA!

Re: H1N1 vaccine?

  • I read today that Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights is having one on November 7th

  • just a suggestion but you should do your own research on the H1N1 vaccine before you make your decision, don't just make the decision from your doctor.  Go to Mercola's website and he has a whole bunch of interesting facts about the vaccine that might concern you.  The women who are pregnant right now are the ginny pigs for this NEW vaccine.  Goodluck!
  • Okay, to respond to notw397-

The seasonal flu shot is new every single year, so why are you stressing that the H1N1is NEW?  We know it's new, but the way it's made is not NEW.  The H1N1 strain would have been included in our regular flu shot if it had surfaced in January, not April.  This nestie and her dr. made the decision for her to get this, she was asking where, not what you think about it.  I'm sorry, but calling pregnant woman "ginny pigs" for this is ridiculous.

  • im scared of all vaccines so thanks for the info,,,

but i also think you can go to beaumont & get the vaccine... my hubs went & got it quick & easy -- although it may have just been for their employees... you could call HR at different places & they will let you know if they offer it to the general public :)

otherwise all i have heard is the freedom hill thing too.

  • Beaumont only has the vaccine for there direct care employees.
  • I would just call the local health departments to see what they have available. I got mine through the Livingston co. HD last week. That's what my ob told me to do too.
  • There is a limit on the vaccine, it might not be a good idea to wait for it to come to your Doc's office.  I know at Henry Ford, they have it at the Hospitals but not the clinics.  Even the staff have not been vaccinated yet due to the shortage.  I live in Oakland County, you can go on their website and register for it at the free clinics and they tell you where and when the next one will be.  I know it sucks but I think it might be worth it for the prego peeps.
  • If you do go to a county health department open clinic (the only option I could find), be prepared for a long time stuck on your feet!  With my students and colleagues coming down with H1N1 left and right, I stood in line for over four hours to get mine yesterday at Schoolcraft.  The line was longer than I ever could have imagined.  Luckily the weather was gorgeous, I kept the day open just in case, I brought snacks, and there were bathrooms available.  If I had been any earlier or further along in my pregnancy, I don't think I could have handled it.

I just want to add that there were a ton of couples with infants waiting 4+ hours for the vaccine yesterday in Livonia.  I think the key was having both parents there, one to stand in line and the other to feed/change/entertain the baby in whatever way necessary.  Perhaps being on a weekday, there will be fewer people at the Palalce.  And perhaps Oakland County is more organized than Wayne County?  GL!
